Individual pictures of the football
team were taken yesterday afternoon.
After the pictures were taken Coach
Robinson called a meeting of the team
and the question of whether the team
wanted a post-season game with El
Paso was discussed. It w-as decided
that If a game could tie scheduled, they
would play it. An election was then
held to elect a captain for next year's
squad. Charles Wart man was elected.
Short talks were made by Capt. Gilje
land and Captain-elect Wartman.
Basketball season has opened at last.
Suits, were given out Friday afternoon
and practice will start immedlately
Capt. Davis states that the prospects
for a championship team look bright
for this year. Everyone who Is inter
esrted in basketball should get a suit
and come out for practice.
The junior play, "A Rose O Plym
outh Town." is advancing to perfection
and everything will be in readiness
when the curtain rises on the evening
of Dec. 17th. Everyone should hold
that date open and attend the play.
The regular meeting of the Coyote
forum will be held this afternoon in
Mr. Ayer's room.

A young gentleman has recently
taken up hi Lbode with Mr. and Mrs.
Arch Ruth. Both mother and baby are
well.
The Pendergast I. T. A. rendered
a most excellent program last Thurs
day afternoon, at which time more than
40 members were present to listen to
a most interesting talk by Mrs. M. E.
Phelps, who is president of the local
council of Phoenix and vice president
of the National Congress of Mothers
and Parent-Teacher associations. Ac
cording to Mrs. Phelps, the Pender
gast school is placed well at the head
o the list of the schools of the county
which are doing things. During the
program Miss Mac Yean gave a reading
and Miss Turner rendered a piano se
lection. Light refreshments were
served by Mrs. Armstrong and Mrs.
Ammons.
The West End ranchers have recent
ly organized a basebal Ream and ex
pect to "wipe up'" on the surrounding
teams in the near future. The hom
diamond is located on the Meyers-Farmer-Groom
ranch.
M. V. Roberts, husband of Mrs. Neva
Sue Roberts, one of the teachers in the
Pendergast schools, arrived in Phoe
nix Saturday from Monticello, Mo. Mr.
Roberts is an invalid and expects to

The literary societies gave a Thanks
giving program Wednesday afternoon.
The glee club s.ir.g selections, after
which the play, 'The Courtship of
Miles Standish" was rendered to a
large and appreciative audience. -
The many friends of the Rev. and
Mrs. S. F. Hawkins called upon the
minister Thursday evening "all unbe
knownst" to Mr. trod Mrs. Hawkins and
brought with, them Thanksgiving cheer
in the form of a pound party. Visitor
both invited and uninvited always find
a hearty welcome at the parsonage.

MILLIONS BURIED IN VIGO BAY
The largest amount of sunken
treasure there is any record of lies at
the bottom of Vigo bay, on the coast
of Spain. Here a Spanish plate fleet of
17 great galleons and their escort of
23 warships were sunk 300 years ago
by a combined fleet of English and
Dutch war vessels.
There is no guesswork about the
amount of treasure on board the gal
leons. It is a matter of official rec
ord and ia placed in the neighborhood
of $140,000,000, which, at the time when
there was very little money in the
world, had a purchasing power ten
time greater than now.
Of this immense sum a little was
landed, taken inland and sa-ed. A
few millions fell as spoils to the vic
tors and the balance has served as a
bait to draw adventurers from every
where to Vigo bay. A heavily financed
company even now, under a conces
sion from the king of Spain, is trying
to salvage the sunken galleons and
their cargoes.
All in all, not more than $20,000,000
has been saved from the sea, "including
that landed, that captured and that
reclaimed by the various firms to
whom concessions have been granted
during the last 300 years; so it is safe
to say that at least $100.0"0.000 yet re
mains resting on the bottom of the bay.
