The.se men and women. Pilgrims, who sought a place in the wilderness in or der to worship God according to the dictates of their several consciences, moulded the future of a great nation and by their sacrifices in the cause of Principle and uncompromising adher ence to Truth set such an example and so impressed their ideals upon their posterity that the Nation to whose foundation they contributed so greatly, near threo hundred years later, went to war for an ideal and threw its all into the balance on the side of right. Now, Therefore, I, Willis II. Plunkett, Mayor of the City of Phoenix, by vir ture of my office do recommend that Tuesday, the 21st day of December, 1920, the tercentenary of the landing of the Pilgrims, be generally observed in the City of Phoenix as a holiday in commemoration of the coming to these shores of the principles of freedom and democracy. Witness my hand this Sth day of December, 1920. WILLIS H. PLUXKKTT, Mayor. .
