WHAT'S ?N A NAME? Damascus is the name of the, oldest city of the world, and It is a name to conjure with. As you repeat It, there flows before you the world's history, for Damascus was old when history was born. As you listen, you seem to hear the whirring of the centuries, the alluring lise and shattering fall of dynasties, the murmus of innumerable peoples and races, shimmering and fading away Into the mists of unutterable pasts. There Is no let nor stay upon your imagination. Damascus the beautiful! The city of the two rivers in the midst of the desert, and therefore to endure for ever. It is related that when the prophet Mahomet, t came within sight of Da mascus, he turned away and went back into the desert, saying that no man could enter Paradise twice, and he must choose the enternal paradise. It is exceedingly dangerous, as either gasoline or benzin gives off at ordi nary temperature inflammable vapor. Through these vapors, a light at a distance may ignite the liquid.
