The' score. 8 to S. does not Indicate the closeness of the contest for It was anybody's game until the eighth frame. For seven innings, the White Sox tried every method known to force the victory upon their Opponents. They had succeeded fairly well, too. for the Tiacrs were leading 3 to 2 when the Sox went to bat in the licst half of the semi-final frame. They had presented the Tigers with two of their three runs and had fool ishly lost at least two runs by poor base running. All this was in spite t the masterful pitching of Nevitt, Tempe moundstnan, who has been signed by the White Sox management for the season. Nevitt pitched an up hill game and he labored manfully. He was always getting out of holes which his teammates had created for him. In the eighth, however, the Sox launched an attack that netted them four runs on as many hits and put them three to the good. Finally West fall started the rally wlth a clean bingle to left and he cashed when Sorey's fall fly dropped safely in center, Sorey getting a two base smash on the blow. Thomas counted Sorey with a line single to the same spot and he counted a mo ment later on Smith's crashing home run drive into acep center. The Tigers were the first to score. counting their Initial marker In the first. After Ed Scott had been re tired on strikes, Salazar landed at second on Smith's wild heave over Warren's head. Salazar would have been an easy out but for the bad peg. Lopez died on a foul fly to Smith bufDrtega responded with a two-base crack to left, scoring Salazar. Chino whiffed. The Sox knotted the count In the third. Cooper led off with a double to left and took third on a short passed ball, from where he counted on Warren's drive into center. The next two were easy outs. The Sox scored again in the fourth, taking the lead for a few minutes. Murphy was hit by a pitched ball and after Smith hnd fouled out to E. Scott, took second on a passed ball, from where he counted on. Mason's triple to" right center. Nevitt and Cooper were easy outs. Salazar started the fourth for the Tigers with a double to left and took tJlird when Sorey booted Lopez's grounder. Iipez stole second on the first ball pitched.
