against shorts who again covered
urgently as the buying movement at
tained broader dimensions.
Most of the day's happenings were
helpful to the constructive side, em
bracing such factors as easier call
snd time money rates, stronger in
dications of industrial revival and a
sharp recovery In the leading foreign
exchanges.
The latter development was as
cribed mainly to heavy buying of
cotton bills by British, French and
German interests, this coinciding
with another upturn in cotton op
tions.
Oils featured the dealings, but de
mand for steels, equipments, motors
and rails was sufficiently large to
strenghten the Impression that vari
ous bull pools had reentered the mar
ket. Mexican petroleum registered a
gross advance of ( points to a level
nearly 80 points over its recent mini
mum price and affiliated stocks, such
as Pan American, .Asphalt common
and preferred, Houston and Royal
uutcn rained 154 to 3 points.
Other strong features comprised
Gulf Btates, Crucible and United
States Steels, American and Baldwin
Locomotives, railway steel spring,
American Car. General Electric.
Chandler, leading sugars and tobacco
and junior transportations, especially

but dropped to 5 before noon. Time
loans were made at a hi per cent on
all industrial collateral, a concession
