Total valuation of private car lines in this state has been fixed by .the state tax commission at $2,008,888. which will net a tax to ,the state of $42,186.80. The tax for 1921 will exceed that Of 1920 ty $11,485.75, despite the fact that there are but 109 cars operating this season while last year the num ber was 118. - The advance has been explained by Charles R. The registration in Phoenix high has reached 1.8C7, making the at tendance, larger than it has been in the history oi the school. To date there are 666 freshmen, E51 sopho mores. 317 Juniorv 298 seniors, 66 Junior college 43 special and 26 col-': ored students enrolled. In the debating course this year it ie designed to conduct a form in which the studec will learn by ac tual practice the conduct of busi ness, under elementary rules. Along with ' this formal training they are studying the art of oral arguments, the nature of debates, types of argu ment, what is good authority, and making of the brief. The effort will be to render the course as practical as possible, ' not only by pushing the conduct of af fairs 'Into student hands, but by the choice of topics which are of imme diate civic Interest. Just at present a committee Is considering the best methods of nom ination and election of public offi cials with special bearing upon the organization of the' debating forum. Mr. Lehigh wll' have charge of the Boys' glee club this year, and If his plans can be carried out the club will ba a big success ' The try outs for the club will be held Monday, Oct. $, eighth hour ' . On account of crowded conditions the freshmen were compelled to hold a separate assembly from the other students yesterday.
