PAGE EIGHT THE ARIZONA REPUBLICAN, PHOENIX. TUESDAY MORNING, OCTOBER 25, 1921. MiY CHANGES A v niunii mm man OFFICES AT STATE n nr in mwim llll It the tentative plans of Burt "vVinar, 'secretary of the board of directors of state Institutions, are carried out. there will he a whole Rale moving about of offices in the state house. With the moving; of the land depart ment from the bungalow and the of fice of the water commissioner to the state highway building there will bo a number of changes, and while making changes Mr. Wlngar believes in making good ones. For instance, there has been talk for some time of the need of another office attached to those occupied by chief executlw?. The governor lias his private office and a recep tion room where the secretary must necessarily transact much important business. It is in order to have -some place In which letters might be tlie tated not in the hearing of the public that it Is planned to have the gover nor to take over the office of Ray mond Earhart, state treasurer, who will move into the state game ward en's headquarters and also take over the south room of the secretary of state which was used for the auto, mobile license de'partment and for which the secretary has no need since the licensing has been taken over by the county assessors. The state game -warden will have the. basement. Joe V. Prochaska. the game warden, said yesterday that he had never had sufficient room In which to exhibit Arizona fish and game. At. present only a part of the exhibit Is at the state house, but other ine specimens are at the state fair grounds and the taxidermists. These will be brought together In a splendid educational exhibit which will be given full play in the base ment. The bungalow wilt house the com missions. The state entomologist, the state dairy commissioner and the commission on agriculture and hor ticulture will be quartered there. It is understood that the commit tee directing the mental hygiene sur vey of the state will occupy the of fices of the water commis!oner, but this is not definitely decided. In fact none of the arrangements have been settled, but these are the plans und er consideration by Mr. Wingar and state officials. o A mountain disintegrating: so fast that the action is discernible day by day is a remarkable phenomenon of the Aussee region of Austria. Great cones and pinnacles of rock crash and tumble and forests lie flat or move slowly and steadily downward, piling into the valleys. It 13 believed that water in the chalky limestone core of the mountain causes the col lapse of caverns and the slipping of strata. NOTES FROM CLASS AND CAMPUS OF PHOENIX UNION HIGH SCHOOL The Phoenix High school team lost its last game with the I, of Re serves. It was a hard fought game from beginning to enii. The Univer sity boys were better fit for the game. Shoemaker, star guard, sus tained a broken ankle and will prob ably be out the rest of the season. The Coyotes will play Tucson High this coming Saturday. It will be a new team that will represent Phoenix High. Several of the players will be changed around, which will make the team 100 per cent stronger. It will Vie a great surprise for Tucson to find the team in the shape it will be in next Saturday. The team started out lut evening with a hard prac tice with many new students and business men on the side lines anx ious to see what changes will be made. The executive committee of the English Confederation club voted that the Knglish department should have a phonograph and that each class will be able to use the phono graph at different times. During the lunch period yesterday, while someone for a Joke was tieing a girl's pocketbook to the flag pole rope, the rope was accidently pulled up and left the pocketbook high in the air. Hundreds of students crowd ed around, some suggesting ways of etting it down. Several tried to climb the pole, but True Harmuson was the only one able to perform the feat. It was very risky for "True," for the pole is 75 feet high, but a fellow would risk most anything for a girl. The second battalion after inspec tion and retreat yesterday marched into assembly. They were addressed by Ir. Talbot about the conditions of the Near Kast. He told of the real conditions that exist in old Europe, relating several very interesting inci dents that occurred on his tour. Mr. Talbot also spoke to several history classes during the day. The night school has a larger en rollment that ever before, there are 16 teachers and every class is full. Mr. Michaels announces that the stu dents are the best group of workers that have ever attended night school at Phoenix high. They seem to take an interest in their work and the op portunity that is given to them, he says. Officers' school of the second bat talion will be held this mornig at S o'clock. Examinations will be con tinued and several officers will have their tryouts in drilling a whole com pany. This is included in the exam inations. San Diego has cancelled the foot ball game with Phoenix. line Ifil THE RACE DESPITE ATTY. GEN. OPINIO R Despite the fact that the attorney general has held that a superior court Judge cannot hold the office of school trustee. Judge Fred In graham of Tuma proposes to make the race. Tt is understood that there Is con siderable rivalry for the position into which has been injected as much bit terness aa a political fight. P. T. Rob ertson, an attorney, is opposing Judge Ingraham who, in the opinion of the state's legal advisor, is disqualified. In his opinion. Attorney General Galbraith said: "The office of school trustee is a nubile offite and also a matter of public employment, within the mean ing of the provisions of Section 11, Article VI, of the Constitution of the State of Arizona, and that In neither aspect can such office or employment be deemed Judicial In its nature, and that a superior court Judge is for that reason disqualified from acting' as a school trustee." This opinion is supported by the opinion of four supreme court in the case of State vs. Osborn, 14 Arizona, page 185. o A French scientist claims a motor oil like gasoline can be derived from vegetable oils. DAY A GOOD SUN FOR FIRST BAPTIST SELLS-FLOTO EVER THE EARTH FOR SOMETHING fflV Ljttle doggies and big elephants, cute ponies and beautiful white ring horses, petite girl riders in spangles and pink silk and "Poodles" Hanne ford, grotesque in voluminous eve ning clothes, dancing, somersaulting tumbling, sprawling on the back, the neck, the tail and underneath the barrel of his racing stallion.. Surely the circus is filled with contrasts. And the Sells-Floto circus seeks al ways more contrasts, more variety. That is why its management this year has secured the Hannefords from the New York Hippodrome; the Codonas, from Pubillones Spanish circus; the Nelsons, the Ottawagas Japanese, the Hamido Madri Arabs and scores of other features. All these acts and many more, of course, will come to Phoenix on Mon day, Oct. 31, the first week of the combined Sells-Floto and Buffalo Eill's Wild West show and they will be seen in three rings and on the two stages of the Sells-Floto big top. The performances open this year with a spectacular extravaganza of bewildering beauty. "The Birth of the Rainbow," in which 1,000 people and 400 animals appear in costly garb and trappings. The groupings and effects in this kaleidoscopic spectacle are as unusual as they are beautiful. Scores of ballet girls take part. And Sells-Floto has spared no effort to present pretty girls. Their costumes for this pageant were all made by a great New York modiste, and, al though this is an old statement in re gard to big musical shows, it is a new fact with the circus. And that, again, Is Just another contrast sought and obtained by this ircus. CLYNE CALLED TO CAPITAL CHICAGO, Oct. 23. Charles F. Clyne, United States district attor ney, today was summoned lo Wash ington by Attorney General Daugh erty. Mr. Clyne said he presumed the summons was over the railroad strike; situation. Dr. Shanks, is the teacher, and next week the class will assemble in its own room for study at the Sunday school hour. The young people's service was largely attended and much interest was shown in the work. Three mis sion Sunday schools manned by members of First church reported large attendances. Interest is grow ing in the themes presented by the pastor, and program for church ac tivities is being made up that will bring good results.
