W. K. Wiliett, president and gen eral manager of Durant Motor com pany of Indiana, was at the wheel and he was accompanied by H. W. Alger .first vice president in charge of sales for the Indiana company. All of the six-cylinder cars in the Durant line will be manufactured by the Indiana company in the Muncie plant. For several months the organ isation at Muncie has been prepar ing to get into production immediate ly upon the arrival of the first car from the engineering department. It is anticipated that the complete line of six cylinder cars will be ready for first showing at the automobile shows. Officers of the Durant Jlo tor Company of Indiana are an nounced today as follows: W. R. Wiliett, president; H. W. Alger, first vice president in charce of sales; A. W. K. Wiliett, who has been se lected by Durant interests to head Durant Motor Company of Indiana as president and general manager, has been identified with the automo bile industry since its inception. Starting as a tool-maker in the axle division of the Durant-Dort Car riage company In Flint, he has risen by successive steps until today he is recognized as one of the most cap able men in the industry. From 1904 until 1!09 he served his automobile apprenticeship with the Euick Motor company in their Chicago service branch,incidentally driving the first piece of automotive apparatus in the Chicago fire department in 1906, a special job made by the Euick. In 1909 and 1910 he was acting manager of the Rainier Motor company, a gen eral motor division at Saginaw, Mich., and for the next two years was manager of the Welch Motor com pany at Fontiac, another General Motors division. Continuing with General Motors until March. 1921. Mr. Wiliett served as works manager of the Gemmer Manufacturing company at Detroit, Mich, making steering gears, from 1913 to 1916, when he became gen eral manager of the Chevrolet Mo tor company of Bay City, Mich. In 1919 he organized the Central Gear company and Central Axle company, two General motors divisions In De troit, building and equipping the plants and having full charge of production. Durant Motor company of Indiana will build all of the six-cylinder cars In the Durant line and Mr. Willett's first task is to equip the former Sheridan Motor Car company at Muncie, Indiana, to take care ot this business. o of domestic gasoline consumption for the month of September of 6j. 000,000 gallons, and production declined by approximately 25,000 gallons a day. as compared with August. Stocks of gasoline on hand at refineries on Sept- 30 decreased by 52.0uO.000 gal lons. Exports also fell in line and' decreased by nearly 13,000,000 gal lons, as compared with those of the preceding month. According to the staistics prepared by the Bureau of Mines, the produc tion ot gasoline for the first nine months of 1921 increased by 10 per cent over the production for the same period in 1920; imports of gasoline were decreased 17 per cent; exports decreased 15 per cent; shipments to the insular possessions gained 33 per cent, while domestic consumption in creased 6 per cent. The daily average production of lubricating oils for the month of Sep tember was 137,000 gallons larger than the production for the month of August. Stocks were decreased 12. 300,000 gallons during the month. For the first nine months of 1921. the production of lubricating oils shows a decrease of 17 per cent; exports a loss of 35 per cent; shipments to in sular possessions a decrease of one per cent, and domestio consumption a decrease of 21 per cent. 1 o London's women police cost the city 150,000 a year, although they have no real authority to make arrests. The new In stitution is the result of a partner ship formed between the two proprie tors, who are old-timers in Fhoenix and well-known to many hundreds Of ca'r owners. Roger Hunt started In the automo bile business here in 1914 with the Cadillac asency. He had direct charge of all shop work, remaining in this capacity until In 1917 he asso ciated with Fred Hart and together they opened a garage at First avenue and Bennett lane. They conducted this garage until it became too small for them and a new building was erected for them at Second avenue and Van Buren street, in which they operated for two years. Mr. Hunt then went into business for himself, opening a garage at 614 West Van Buren street, while Mr. Hart became associated with the Dunbar Spring Service company. However, the old spirit of partner ship worked its way into their souls again and as a result, after nearly three years, they are opening up the Fhoenix garage. All repsvtr work and adjustments, together with service work on motor cars, will be under the direct super vision of both Mr. Hunt and Mr. Hart. NOT USING QUITE SO MUCH FUEL WASHINGTON, T.
