"Some of them were doubtful about its performance, admitting that it looked like a car costing at least $300 more, but these 'Doubting Thomases' Tave been convin ?ed that the car has power, flexibility and general sturdi ness as well as looks through the medium of a ride over rough streets. up hills and in hea. down-town traffic.- George Pearson f the Union Mo tor company, said: "We were not sure ourselves Just how good a. ear w e had until we took it tut one day last week and sent It over the top of Quintero street, then over !ie west side ot Second street and up the Grand ave nue grade between Fifth and Fourth streets with a load of 24 passengers. Buick Valve-in-Head . Motors Have More Power Internal combustion motors .are heat engines. TJie more heat retained in their cylinders, the more power they generate. Water-jacketing space absorbs heat. ' Buick Valve-in-Head motors have about 20 less water-jacketing space than the L Head type and about 15 less than .the T Head type. That is one of the reasons why Buick Valve-in-Head motors have more power. The custom of pick ing up scrap tires and sending them in for replacement to obtain special price concessions has grown up. Cus tomers have been inclined to ask for illegitimate replacements, to take a chance on getting all they could, be lieving that everyone else did the same and that there was nothing actually wrong in doing so. Policy replacements have become more and more common. Thousands of undeserved replacements have been made all over Uie country. The care ful motorist has been penalized In favor of the careless, as the tires themselves have had. to carry this ex Dense. Wide-awake tlr dealers through out the country have asked repeatedly that tire guarantees Ve removed so that they could meet competition on the merits of the products handled, and not on the basis of unwarranted replacements. It has come to pass that in certain Instances replacements have become the biggest selling argu ment to the customer. Tires, like any other merchandise, are made to an swer a certain definite purpose. The fulfillment of this purpose is gov erned by the way in which they are used. Yet this has been seldom con sidered in dealing with automobile casinfirs. The latest step taken towards the elimination of unjustified replace merits is the recommendation by the tire manufacturers' division of the Rubber Association of America, Inc. of a manufacturers standard war ranty to replace the usual tire guar antee, and a standard claim form for the use in renuestine replacements. The action of the association, says the Miller Rubber company, Akron, Ohio, U n definito step forward to protect motorists and tire dealers against the menacB r,t undeserved replacements. A ature of the new proposition Is the fact that the mileage basis of fig urine replacements has been abso lutely discontinued. Tire men have come to realize that mileage is oniy a basis o argumen. and that service Is the real criterion. " Service, then has replaced mileage. The motorist knows that to neglect his tire equip ment is simply money out of his pocket. A customer in filling in the stand ard claim form used with the war ranty gives the exact facts in the ATTENTION AUTO OWNERS 33x4 Goodyear Tires, Factory Guarantee Dia mond or Rib Tread, $21.00, Express Prepaid. One of the outstanding features Is that age has very little effect on the quality of the rubber and ordinary heat will not injure it. Another unique characteristic Is that injuries due to puncture and blow-out are greatly restricted and seldom extend beyond the area of in jury to the casing. Further, the vulcanization of re pairs has no weakening effect on the adjacent tube wall, it has been a fact well known to tire repair men that the rubber nt such points is like ly to be weak after a repair has been vulcanized. Another interesting quality of the new tube is that it acquires no "per manent stretch.-' It will fi back into the casing without wrinkling even rnouch it has been used for a consid erab'e period. The new tube has been carefully tested and the test reports show that not a single fault developed .in any tube throughout the entile testing period. Phone 6495 P. O. If you were contemplating the purchase of a passenger car" or commercial car wouldn't you be influenced by the fact that practically half of the buyers and owners of such cars in the United States after long, costly experience, had selected the Ford as the most economical and reliable car made? Could you ignore this preference to such "an extent that you would not at least make a thorough investigation of the economy and reliability of the Ford before mak ing an investment in either a car for yourself or a truck for your business? You are invited, before investing, to take advantage of the immense amount of data in our Ford records room, showing comparative depreciation, cost of operation and ability to accomplish almost impossible tasks. ' We are printing below records of sales in Southern California from January 1, 1921 to October 31, 1921, to show how Ford car and Ford truck sales compare with the sales of others selling next largest number. The percentages are shown for compari son and should prove interesting and convincing. Study them" carefully. One Half of All Cars on American Roads Are Ford Cars This is a business condition absolutely without precedent or parallel anywhere. This would not be so, could not be so, if the Ford car had not proven, by all the tests that time and the greatest number and variety of uses and abuses can impose, its superior worth. It has delivered to users what they demanded in a motor car. It has established its superior merits in the most practical manner not by any exceptional schemes of selling nor by extravagant advertising nor any sort of commercial combinations. . The demand is unprecedented because the value is unequaled. From any and every angle, there is only one reason why the Ford car so far outsells all other cars. It is a better car. The Ford car must be judged independently of its price. It is astonishingly low in price and surpris ingly high in value because it is produced upon a scale so gigantic, so efficient and so economic, as to reduce the cost of manufacturing and dis tributing to the minimum.
