MYSTERIOUS STRONG MAN A strong man made his appearance in the state house yesterday, according to Raymond Dyas. state inspector of weights and measures, who is minus two of his test weight of Kn pounds each. "Probably he wanted to borrow them as watch charms," said Dyas as he reported the loss to H." M. Alexander, state house custo dian. The weights, with three others totalling 250 pounds, were stacked in the lobby when removed, Dyas said. CITED TO APPEAR The Squaw Peak Mining company, has been cited to appear before the corporation commission Jan. 9 and present all its records for the inspection of the commission, to which allegations have been made that the company is conducting its business in an unsafe, inequitable and unauthorized man ner. BOY SCOUT MEETING The Capitol troop of Boy Scouts will re sume its activities after the first of the year, according to Joe V". Pro- chacka, state game warden and scout master, who will hold the meeting in his office In the state house. The time has been set for January 6 at 7 o clock and the program will be de voted to "Nature Study," and will be conducted by Mr. Prochaska and his assistant, "W es Hill. The meeting will be staged at the game warden's office in order to illustrate many of the points brought out in the discus sion. INSPECTING INSTITUTIONS Raymon Earhart. state treasurer and member of the board of directors of state Institutions, is on a tour of in spection of state institutions. Mr. Earhart visited the penitentiary at Florence yesterday and today will investigate conditions at the Fort Grant Industrial school. DIVERT FLOOD WATERS High waters in Castle Creek caused Benjamin Rice of Phoenix and sever al other guests at the Castle Hot Springs hotel to work hard for' sev eral hours to check the water and keep it from pausing considerable, damage at the resort, according to word received here last night. . TOLLESON FARM BUREAU The Tolleson Farm bureau will meet at 7:30 o'clock this evening at ward school No. 1 for the election of of ficers and the organization of the Tolleson farm bureau district. Entertain ment will be provided by a male quartette from Phoenix, and during the meeting a light lunch will be served. CHARGED WITH FORGERY Jeff Ij. Smith yesterday was ar raigned before Justice Nat T. McKee on three counts charging forgery. The preliminary hearing of the case was set for December 29, and Smith was committed to the county jail under a bond of 31.000. Smith is charged with uttering thrfe checks on December 13, to all of which he is alleged to have forged the name of Sam Pasco. DESTROY LIQUOR In accord ance with an order Issued yesterday by Judge Ssanford, Sheriff Mont gomery at 1:30 o'clock this--after noon will destroy the liquid evidence in 26 liquoi cases which have been tried and finished in the superior court. SENTENCED TO JAIL Martini Macias yesterday was sentenced by Judge Stanford to serve one year In the county, jail at hard labor. He was found guilty several days ago on a charge of manufacturing intox icating liquor.. Jesus Gonzales plead ed guilty to a similar charge and was sentenced to serve 10 days In the county jail. Ed Wright, charged with robbery in connection w ith the holdup of a gambling game on East Jefferson street on December 4. yes terday pleaded not guilty to the charge and the case will be tried on February 3. Lee Wright, who was found guilty by a. Jury on an indict ment returned by the grand jury charging him with assault, yester day was sentenced by Judge Stan ford to serve 60 days in the county jail. TRIPLE CELEBRATION The fact that Miss May O'Clair had just wed ded Ernest Kahle. and that it was her birthday and Christmas was the oc casion of a "three in one" celebration at the home of the bride's parents. Mr. and Mrs. George O'Clair. at G-6 ranch, in Paradise valley. A feature of the event was the cutting of the large birthday cake by the bride, a coincidence being that there were just "4 candles and 24 at the table. Music had been furnished and the evening was spent in dancing under the mistletoe. Both young people are native Arizonians and were schoolmates and are well known in Phoenix vicinity. HEARING POSTPONED The hearing on the emergency existing in Cochise county scheduled before the state tax commission for today has been continued until January 4. Campbell, who spent Christmas Monday with his parents. Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Campbell, in Prescott, did not return home yester day morning as scheduled, having been delayed by storms in the north. "Footprints are hard to take well," said Mr. Jones today. '"They blur in taking; the foot spreads as the weight is put upon it. . Finger prints would be easier and absolutely safe. "Seventy-five thousand persons die unidentified in the United States every year. That's one reason every one should have his finger prints registered. The government should take them all and classify them in a central bureau in Washington. It al ready has a good start with the prints of 5 million men who were in the service during the war.
