Arizona marksmen will be repre sented at the next competitive shoot at the famous annual tournament at Sea Girt, New Jersey. The city council of Douglas has passed an ordinance which prohibits policemen from entering a saloon while on duty, unless for the express purpose of making an arrest. All automobiles in the city of Tuc son must hereafter carry a number conspicuously displayed, the city council having passed an ordinance to that effect at the last meeting. 11. H. Ferguson, o Kymo, Yavapai County, writes the sheriff's office at Phoenix that horse thieves are abroad in that section and that he has missed seventeen horses from his ranch. Acme was last week the scene of a shooting affray between James Stev enson and John Fitzpatrlck which re sulted in the death of the former and the arrest of the latter on a charge of murder. Seven days without food or water, on the burning desert in Sonora below Yuma, is the terrible ordeal through which Pablo Valencia, a prospector, passed. He is now at Yuma, slowly recovering from the effects of the experience. The Consolidated Copper Queen Mining Company has been made the co-defendant in a five thousand dol lar damage suit against one of the employes of the company who caused another employe to be arrested on alleged false charges of forgery. The district attorney's office of Graham County has filed suit to collect a bond forfeiture of $500. It is un derstood that this is the first suit of the kind ever brought in Graham County. The bond was given by Rito Vasquoz, who was sent up from Clif ton for attempt to kill. Julian Gal van and Romulo Chaves are the sure ties. A telegram has been received at the oflice of the governor saying that the sheriff of Mohave County had at tached tho postofBce building and fix tures at Chloride and that the mail was being interfered with. The at tachment was said to have been made on a judgment against Postmaster Charles O'Connelly. The governor re ferred the dispatch to the office of the United States attorney. Bisbee's public schools employ twenty-two teachers. Several lengthy ar ticles have recently appeared in the EJisbee papers comparing Tucson and the mining camp much to the disad vantage of Tucson. The piiblic schools of Tucson employ over forty teachers. This comparison, the most signifi cant feature of a city's progress and true advancement, is somewhat detri mental to the mining camp. Tucson Citizen.' Attorney General B. S. Clark is ex pected in Phoenix this week, where some action may be inaugurated against the boards of supervisors of the various counties which have re fused to recognize the action of the territorial board of equalization in the matter of the increased mine as sessments. It is probable -that the matter will be first brough tbefore the supreme court, which will meet September 27th. The Nogales Times says that con trary to existing opinion, the auail season does not open until October IB. It continues open until March 1. Those who go on the impression that it opens in September are liable to run up against a game warden. Quail, bob-white, partridge, grouse, pheasant and snipe are protected by the territorial law until October 15. Deer and wild turkey are subject to the skill of the hunter from Septem ber 15 to December 1. Duck, geese and doves are not protected, except as to the taking or destroying of eggs.
