Texico is to have a mammoth $20,000 general mer chandise store, the same to be install ed within a few weeks. At a meeting held here of the monied men, boosters and others interested In the future of this town, the necessary money, was raised. The store will do a general merchandising business and will not only cater to the local trade but to that of the surrounding section as well. FORMER SANTA FEAN DIES IN EL PASO. John Philip Dieter, formerly of San ta Fe, but lately of El Paso, Texas, died in the latter city last week, fol lowing a brief illness. A number of years ago Mr. Dieter disposed of his business In this city and journeyed to El Paso and entered into a partnership with A. L. Houck, engaging in the liquor business In which they were successful. ' Mr. Dieter was well known through- out the territory, and had a large num ber of friends in the Capital who will regret to hear of his death. NEWSPAPER MAN HOPELESSLY INSANE. Portales, N. M., Oct., 11. F. G. Spencer, formerly a newspaper man of Texico, but lately connected with the Farwell Ice and Light Company, was brought here and lodged in the county jail, pending his commital to the territorial insane asylum. Spencer appears to be hopelessly insane as the result of strong drink and drugs. He is also charged with embezzling $300 from the Farwell Ice and Light Com .pany. ,,v'A TULAROSA GETS LAND COMMISSIONER. Alamogordo, N. M., Oct., 11. That Tularosa is growing, and growing very rapidly, is shown by the recent ap pointment of a United States land commissioner for that town. Hon. E. A. Mann, judge of the sixth judicial district, has appointed J. W. Long, of Tularosa to be United States commissioner, to handle all of the mat ters pertaining to entry and proof of settlers claims originating in the Tula rosa district. This will greatly facilitate transact tions of this character, as heretofore all legal business In connection with land matters had to be transacted In Alamogordo; thus requiring a full day's time in going and returning. COLFAX COUNTY MAN SELLS RANCH FOR $10,000. Raton, N. M., Oct., 11. The ranch of Parker Wells, a prominent cattle man of La Cinta canyon, consisting of seven patented claims, has been sold to President Kohhousen of the .First National Bank of Raton, consideration $10,000. The purchaser, it is stated, will raise blooded cattle and thorough bred horses, for which purpose the place is Ideal.
