The Oclo ber term of the district court for Roosevelt county, presided over by Judge William H. Pope, has adjourned for the term. A large number of cases, both criminal and civil were disposed of. Perhaps the most interesting case disposed of was a civil case in which Milton Mason was plaintiff and J. A. Street, sheriff of Quay county, was de fendant. The case was one for false arrest and imprisonment. Evidence showed plaintiff had been arrested in this county without a warrant and tak en to Tucumcari and placed in jail and no case was brought against him. The defendant did not appear here In this trial in his own defense. The jury in the case returned a verdict in favor of plaintiff and assessed damages against defendant in the sum of $1,250. The case against Byron Parish, on charge of murder, was continued till next term of court on account of lack of court funds 'to try the case at this time. Parish's bond was fixed at $7,500, which he promptly furnished. Two cases against Frank P. Jones, one for discharging pistol in settle ment, and the other for assault, were continued. Case against R. L. Bates, charge, as sault with a deadly weapon, affray happening at Texico in July, the jury found defendant guilty of assault and battery, and defendant was fined $100 and costs amounting in all to $155.20. Case against J. L. Hylman, charged with larceny of a pocket book at Tex ico, jury found defendant guilty and sentence rendered was one year in the penitentiary, and costs, amounting to $137,. 45, the penitentiary sentence to stand suspended at discretion of the court. Case against John Rogers, of Tolar, charged with carrying a deadly wea pon, resulted in a fine of $50 and costs, amounting to $51.45. Case against John Oldem, for un lawful carrying a pistol and flourish ing same, sentenced to ninety days in jail and pay costs, amounting in all to $5410. Case against Joe Barnes or Mayes, charged with carrying and flourishing !a deadly weapon, jury returned a vcr J diet of not guilty. ! Case against J. J. Reynolds, for j contempt, sentenced to thirty days in I jail and $30 fine and costs of $42.2fi. Case against W. IT. Boyldn, con tempt, sentenced to ten days in jail and pay costs of $20.15. Two cases against Gertrude Ken non, defendant plead guilty to charge in both cases and sentence rendered was a fine of $10 in each case and the costs amounting to $90.40, and sen tenced to sixty days in jail on each case, jail sentence to stand suspended but to be put in force by sherill in case she resumed, either directly or indirectly, the business of running a bawdy house, Cases of vagrancy against Ethel Duncan, Maud West, Clara Williams May Morrison, Gertrude Herroii, Bed Hill, Amy Gilbert, Ray Smith ani Clo Hawkins, defendants plead guilty and were each fined $10 and costs, amount ing to $9.70, also a jail sentence was passed on each to stand suspended as long as defendants remain out ot the Fifth judicial district. CENTRAL ISSUES NEW PASSENGER TARIFF j Effective December 5, 1907 Gives I Round Trip Rates to All Points on Line. The Santa Fe Central Railway Com pany has just Issued a new local pass enger tariff which is effective Decem ber 5, 1907. The new tariff gives all the round trip rates to all points on its line. Children under five years of age will bo carried free when accompanied by parent or guardian; children over five years of age and under twelve will be charged one-half of the regular rates, and when over twelve years of age. full fare will be charged.
