Did you ever know that there was $50 in gold to be given away at the "Little Douglas?" Ask the man be hind the bar. Mrs. Rledi and daughter Madeline, were returning passengers from Se attle on the Humboldt. "Happy" Welch has accepted a po sition at the Bullion (Ire room. Ed Atchison went south on the Humboldt. Did you see the valuable prizes to be given away at the "Little Doug las?" Little Ruby Hile Is still quite Blck, but her parents think she Is slowly recovering. Coupons given away with every 25c purchase at the "Little Douglas." Saturday was pay-day at Treadwell and the town has been lively ever since, resulting in one or two ar rests. Frank Tascher went to a point south of here on the Humboldt. Game Warden Adams Snyder Is on the. island today looking for venison. Mr. Snyder is right on the job and the would-be law breaker had better sit up and take notice. H. L. Graves returned on the Dol phin from Wrangel. Miss M. Berqulst Is unable to at tend to her school duties on account of illness. In the society columns of the Seat tle Times appears the name of Ralph Doremus. formerly of Douglas. Mr. Doremus was married to a Seattle girl last week, after a short honey moon they will take up their residence In Seattle. Ralph was a famous star in the Douglas baseball team. J. T. McDonald, contemplates Bend Mrs. McDonald South for the ben efit of her health. DOUGLAS. Nov. 18?Otto Van Dahlern died of dropsy at Tenakee Springs on Nov. 17. where he had been for two months. The body was brought to Douglas this morning by John Peterson, In his gasoline launch. Little Is known about VAlft Dahlern, except that he was a former resi dent of Dawson and a member of Dawson Aerie No. 50, F. O. E., and a drayman by occupation. J. F. McDonald, president of Doug las Aerie No. 117, F. O. E., today wired the Dawson Aerie for informa tion concerning the dead man. The funeral will be conducted under tho auspices of the Douglas Eagles. The Douglas Roller Rink will be opened to natives on Monday and j Friday nights, Instead of Wednesdays. ARMSTRONG AND BROWN. ??? PROGRESS AT SALMON CREEK I The pipe lino leading to the pen stock at the Salmon creok develop ment work of the Alaska-Gastlneau Company will all be In place by to morrow night. The flume Is finished and the lower dam well under way. The power house Is being rushed to completion. It is expected to have all the ma chinery Installed and delivering pow er to the mines within a month. THE DOLPHIN'S LIST. He is glad to bo back at his old moorings. Capt. Jensen reports that all of the steam fishing craft are tied up in Sound ports because of a strike of the fishermen for a raise of one-half cent per oound. Speaking of the local situation, Captain Jensen said: "The Seattle dealers manage to steal over one third of the sl|}pmonts made by Alas ka fishermen through their system of culling. If it were not for this fea ture we could make money at four cents per pound, whereas we arc now getting live cents, but lose one-third by theft. There is hope now of a competing market and we may do bet ter." It is the Intention of Capt. Jensen to go back'to his calling as soon as he can get a vessel. 11111111111111111111111111 Marine Notes j; : Hi The fishing schooner Rolfe left for the banks today. The fishing boat Kennebec left for the halibut grounds yesterday. The launch White Star was sched uled to leave today. The fishing schooner Dolphin left for the halibut banks yesterday. The salmon trader G. A. R. was to leave for Sum Dum today. Fishing schooner Standard left yes terday afternoon. The Norman Sunde was scheduled to sail for the halbut banks today. The Dolphin arrived at G a. m. to day bringing passengers and 118 tons of freight. The crew of Longshore Boss Head loaded 52 boxes of fresh halibut on ' tho Humboldt. KETCHIKAN CABLE I WORKING AGAIN / ? The break in the Ketchikan cable was repaired today, the cableBhip Huruside having picked up the broken ends in Dry straits early this morn ing. The Hurnside was in communi cation with the local office for a few minutes. The cable has been out of commission for nearly six weeks. GOVERNOR OPPOSED - - TO YUKON CANNERIES. I Gov. Clark has asked the bureau of * fisheries to oppose the establishing of canneries on the lower Yukon and at Attu island on the ground that ' such canneries if established would work haraship on the natives of those localities. GOVERNOR COMPELLED. TO DECLINE INVITATIONS. Gov. Clark has bee^ compelled to decline invitations to several civic functions throughout the country, among the events is Alaska Day at the "Northwestern Products Exposi tion" at St. Paul late this month; an invitation from Governor Eberhart to attend the Minnesota "Conservation and Agricultural Development Con gress" at Minneapolis; the American Mining Congress, in Spokane, and the "Good Roads Association" at Cincin nati, in December. BLEW OUT ON A BLUE TICKET. No. 12 In the Roberts row of cab Ins down on the water front la fast becoming a nuisance. Other adjoin ing tenants are complaining of the disorderly brawling that makes night hideous in that quarter. Last Satur day night there was a fight in the place in which a. drunken Indian woman was beaten up. Later on one of Captain Martin's night men arrested the man supposed to have done the beating and gave him the choice of taking the Hum boldt out, or taking a walk to the city jail. He wont out on the Hum boldt. This fellow is known to have been one of the number of beasts in Ju neau who are engaged in the liquor traffic with Indians and many fruit less efforts havo been made to get evidence that would briug conviction.
