Russell Rockefeller will go back to work at Treadwell Monday, after being absent from duty about two weeks. Miss Enid Richards Is head sales lady at the Treadwell store. The Bhow at tho Lyric last night was tho best entertainment given on the island for some time past. The house was crowded but if the Indian boys were to play again there woudn't bo standing room. The council held a very interesting meeting last night. The Cordova will go South tomor row. Frank Terry and F. W. Florenco, two islanders have closed a deal with John l'owell, and will take charge of the Denver Grand saloon in a short time. Chns. Rudy came in today from Nugget creek, dna reports having fine weather up there. M. G. Rogers, the hustling business man returned recently from a trio to Seattle and other points. The re sult of his visit may be seen in the handsome lines of goods that he now carries, his leaders being men's goods and groceries. Although the enterprising burglar went burgling in Paul Bloedhorn's jewelry store the other night, Mr. I Bloedhorn still has plenty of Christ mas goods, of many varieties, and , the three superb prizes that he will | give away are intact. AN OLD PIONEER AND A YOUNGER SOURDOUGH. Ed I,udecke, the oldest pioneer of Alaska, in point of residence, though not in age, who is in town from his home at Wrangel, called to see his old friend J. C. McBride, of the C. \V. Young Co. "Mac" Is a pretty good josher himself, bat he could scarcely "put one over" on the pioneer, as they ^ sat exchanging reminiscences in Mr. McBrldc's office. "Do you remember how you stole my watch three times in one night, eh?" said "Lu." "I put it away this time before I came in," and the old | pioneer laughed heartily, as he pro ceeded to detail the story of the watch. JUDGE MAKES DIVORCE RULING Judge Overflold this morning made the first urllng under the provisions of the organic act creating the terri tory of Alaska. The question arose over a divorce action wherein attor neys for the parties at interest asked for a trial before a referee. Judge Overflold ruled that under the provis ions of the bill creating the Alaska legislature passed by the last Con gress that ail divorce cases must be tried in open court and the applica tion was refused. The grand jury appeared in court, but had no report to make. Court took up civil culendar and after disposing of several matters ad journed until 2 p. m. Notes. A decree of divorce was granted in the case of Mabel Hamilton vs. Jas. Hamilton. The bar license of John Powell, at Douglas, transferred to C. W. Terry and W. P. Florence. A Judgment was given In case of ('. W. Young vs. John White and Jas. Kerry. The case of Shattuck & Co., vs. American Gold Mining Company and the case of Sahttuck & Co. vs. F. D. j N'owell et al were dismissed on plain tiff's motion, liellenthnl & Heilen tlial wore attorneys for plaintiff. The case of Marcus E. Russel vs. Ester C. ItuBsel action for divorce came up and set for trial tomorrow morning.
