It is reported that the City Bakory's
delivery boy is to Btart a hotel, he
says he does not want to sell any

Hugh Day will leave Friday on the
launch Pacific, for Tenakee, where he
will conduct a billiard hall and an
ice cream parlor.
\V. A. Oliver and son, who arrived
on the last Jefferson, have moved into
the Kane cottage on Fourth street.
Mr. Oliver and son are father and
brother to Lester Oliver, who met his
death in a tragic manner last fall.
The Gilligau boys are erecting a new
barn near their home on Macoroni
avenue.

Some Treadwell boys will give a

? This morning the people of Douglas
? were aroused out of slumberland by
the rapid ringing of the flre bell. The
I tire was found to be in the Orpheum
[? theatre, in the boiler room. It is sup
- posed to have been caused by the
[ crossing of some electric wires
r Great volumes of smoke rolled sky
C ward, and in the theatre the smoke
[ was suffocating. The fire did not do
? much damage in the front of the build
? ing, but burned considerably in the
? rear. If the wind had been blowing
| it would have taken the whole place.
? Last night the cyanide boys defeated
? Treadwell on the Alleys at bowling.
? Before a large crowd Wilson and
? Manners, of Treadwell. defeated Hurl

partment will hold their meeting. It
being Washington's birthday a spec
ial program will be on.
Oak Olson was on the island on a
' business trip today.
Last night the Arctic Brotherhood
! held a meeting and P. H. Fox, who
| used to belong to the order years ago
? renewed his membership, while the
! Hon. J. M. Tanner, of Skagway, and
I Grant Baldwin, of Haines, were en
? tertained. The lodge also elected del
. egates for the convention on Mar 12.
? The Jefrerson is due from the South

? tomorrow.
On next Saturday the Red Men will
have a good time at the I. O. 0. F.
hall. They are celebrating Washing
ton's birthday as he was a Red Man,
although history tells us that was

R. W. Jennings will be a passenger
on the Northwestern tomorrow for
Seattle, where he has a suit to try.
Should he be able to get through with
it in time he will go to Washington
and take in the inauguration cere
monies on March 4.
13. M. Behrends, who has been spend
ing a few weeks in California, will re
turn on the Mariposa.
Andrew Hensley, a well known min
ing man of the interior, is in town
from Warm Springs bay. Mr. Hens
ley has been looking over this section
since last August.
Mrs. L. J. Reedy is coming up on
the Mariposa to join her husband who
is with the Alaska-Gastineau Com
pany.. They will live in Juneau .
Marshal H. L. Faulkner, who has
been in Portland, is a passenger on
the Mariposa enroute to Juneau.
Mrs. J. W. Rummell is coming home
on the Mariposa after a brief visit in
Sound cities.
F. T. Stevenson of the Union Iron
Works, has taken passage on the Mar
iposa for Juneau.
Captain Mi- Campbell is returning
to Juneau on the Mariposa.
Miss Helen Jackson, who has been
with the department store of W. P.
Mills, of Sitka, will be leaving on
the Northwestern enroute to New Or
leans.
E. L. Vinal left on the Georgia this
morning on a tour of Lynn Canal
towns.
Joe Snow has been suffering for
the past few days with muscular rheu
matism.
Councilman E. L. Gray was a pas
senger for Lynn Canal points on the
Georgia this morning.
W. B. Adams, of New York, rep
resenting the financiers of the Pres
byterian mission went to Haines on

Miss Rankin returned from Sitka

The Georgia left for Skagway and
way ports this forenoon.
The Northwestern is due frrom the
Westward at ten o'clock tomorrow
morning.
The Jefferson will probably arrive
Friday morning.
The Mariposa is due to arrive from
the South tomorrow night.
The fishing boats Thelma, Vesta,
Anita Phillips, San Juan and Dora
H., arrived from the banks.
The Curacao was scheduled to ar
rive this afternoon at Douglas at four
SKAGWAY LEADS
IN BOWLING
The 24-game bowling tourney be
tween the Elks' club team of Juneau,
the Elk's club team of Skagway. the
Dawson Athletic club team, and the
North Star Athletic club team of
\Vhitehor8e is a matter of absorbing
interest to lovers of that indoor sport.
The turncy consists of 24 games
divided into 8 series of 3 games each.
The clubs bowl twice each week, Tues
day night and Friday night.
The first series was finished last
night, the two Alaska towns were In
the lead with Skagway at the top. The
trophy is given to the team winning
the greatest number of totals through
out the tournament.
Last night's score were as follows:

Whithorse 2360
Adding these results to the two
previous games, gives the totals as
