He goes to assume the duties of agent for the same company at Nome for which place he will sail on the first trip of ' the Victoria. He has been succeeded ' at Skagway by Charles T. Lyons. Mr. Carroll spent several hours in Juneau Saturday meeting old friends and ac quaintances. Miss Winnie Gilligau, a member of one of the most popular families of Douglas, passed away at 2:30 o'clock this morning af ter a long illness. She died of heart failure. DOUGLAS CHILDREN GET PRIZE MONEY DOUGLAS, May 12.?The Douglas "Clean-up Day" committee has made the following awards to the children of Douglas for the best work per formed on "Clean-up Day:" First prize, $7.50 to the Martini children; second prize, $5, to the Hile children; third prize, $2.50, to the Thomas chil dren, natives who live near the Doug las steam laundry. A prize of $10 will be awarded in August to the children that have the best and cleanest yard at that time This is an inducement to the chil dren to get busy and keep busy. It provides, further, that uo children shall be permited to go be tween Douglas and Treadwell, nor will women, or children under the age of 16 years, be permitted to enter the Treadwell Club. JUNEAU CUBS WIN OVER DOUGLAS CUBS DOUGLAS. May 12. ? The Juneau Cubs defeated the Douglas Cubs at Juneau yesterday in a hotly contested game of baseball. The score was 13 to 10. The batteries: Juneau?W. Jergey and L. Hurlbutt; Douglas?D. Oliver and A. Garn and S. Marks. The Douglas kids expect to get even next Sunday at Douglas. | AS DOUGLAS VIEWS THE BASEBALL GAME DOUGLAS, May 12?The Juneau basebal team defeated the Douglas Isl and team yesterday on the former's grounds by a score of 8 to 7. The bat terries were Harris and Malloy, for Juneau, and Raines and Rockafeller, for Douglas. It was a fine game, al though there were a number of errors on both sides. The Victor is receiving a coat ot paint on the inside. A large crowd attended the dance at the Star Temperance hall Satur day evening. Mrs. S. Fountaine is having an addi tion built to her house near the saw mill. Russell Yorke Is having galvanized iron put on the roof of his house. A large crowd attended the show at the Treadwell Club Saturday night. Milton Kelly was a passenger on the City of Seattle, Saturday, for the States. Rev. John Warmanen Is erecting a fence around his garden. A new water hydrant has been put in on the ball grounds. M. G. Rogers left for a short busi ness trip to the South on the Seattle. The Yukon arrived from the West ward at 5:30 a. m., and departed foi the Soutii at 7 a. m. The Alameda enroute to the West ward will arrive from the South aboul midnight tonight. The Humboldt will arrive at the Isl and about nine o'clock tonight, leav ing and will be in Juneau perhaps at midnight. She will return from Skag way and sail South tomorrow evening, The J'rincess .May is due tonight and will sail south returning from Skag : way tomorrow night. The Al-Ki will be due from the South, .May 18. The Admiral Sampson will be due from the Westward, May 19.
