Members of the Grand Army of the Republic placed modest decora tions on the graves of the veterans of the Civil War that rest in the city cem etery, and Gen. W. L. Distin quietly and reverently cast evergreens in the ! sea in memory of the veterans of the navy that sacrifleced their lives in be half of the Union, in accordance with a ritualistic provision of the Grand Army. The Elks strewed flowers on " the graves of their dead that lie in Elks' Rest. The public offices and banks were closed all day, and the stores were locked and blinds drawn after 12 o' clock, noon. Flags were kept at half staff until noon, as a token of mourn ing for the Nation's dead. The city everywhere bore the quietude that made It seem a Sabbath. o?o?o ? Typewriters for rent?W. H. Overfield has set aside the verdict of the jury in the case of Emma J. Cobb against Dan' McCartney involving the title to Ju neau real estate, wherein a verdict was rendered for the defendant, and ordered a new trial of the cause. Judge Overfield held in the order granting a new trial, that the findings of the jury for McCartney were with out evidence to sustain them, and con trary to the plain instructions of the court. Judge Overfield holds that un der McCartney's own and his wife's statements of their case, Mrs. Cobb was entitled to a judgment giving her undisputed ownership and possession of the lots in question. He says it is apparent that Mrs. Cobb had paid all the property was worth at the time she bought them. o?o?o A complete line of tobacco jars and i pipe racks at BURFORD'S.
