If they want to boo a dictator, he refers them to the ipw President. To outsiders. President Wilson has rfppeared a man who obtains what ho wishes^ rather by a persistence and a steadily exerted pressure, than by any open dictation. There Is a difference, and a very great one, between the man who Insists upon hlB own way without using that diplomatic pres sure which leave no stlug bohlnd it, and the man whoso use of the oil of l|to is constant Uncle Joe Cnnnob was a specimen of the former. His reign became more noted for dictator ial manners the longer it lasted, and when It ended, he did not leave be hind him many who lamented his fall. President Wilson may get his own way and to a larger extend than Uncle Joe ever did, but he does It by differ ent methods. He has the courage of his convictions and he goes ahead to secure their acceptance. He persuades rather than dictates, and this has often the best results In the end.?Dawson News. , . f COAL WILL BE;) OUT IN 40 DAYS ?+? SEWARD. Jnnfl 24? Al. Chamber lain, who accompanied Dr. Schalcben on a trip to the Cook inlet country in the fight that the latter is waging against the measles epidemic, says that things are doing at Knik. He says the air of prosperity pervades the whole country. "Jack Dalton is still on the job," said Chamberlain, "and is making rap id progress in bringing out the coal from the Matanuska for the govern ment.. Swift, the disbursing agent, still refuses to 'disburse,' but Dalton iB going, along as though he did not know he was there. Swift, however, fa very docile' and does not bother around-very much, for he did not get much satisfaction from the govern ment when he sent in his report con corning his little tilt with Dalton, other than being told that all the govern ment cared for was that the coal be brought out to tidewater as rapidly as possible. "Mr. Dalton is relaying the coal from the mine; and has matters so arranged that he says he will have all of the coal on the beach within forty days." FREIGHT RATES TO CHISANA DROPPING Judge J. J. Finnlgan, United States commissioner at Chisana has been in Seward on a business trip, and was a passenger on the Admiral Sampson to Valdez. He reports things as good in the diggings and says that the freight rates from McCarthy's have dropped to 15 cents per pound and looks for it to reach as low as 5 cents per pound before snow melts. He an ticipates a great rush into the coun try during the coming spring. J. W. MARTIN IN CHARGE. ? - J. W.
