Carlson is afflicted with the disease known as Intemperance. and, last evening the symptoms were manifested in a man ner that attracted the attention of the city police, with the result that he was taken before Judge Henson this morning and given twenty-five days in the city cure-all. Mat. is a good worker when not afflicted with the aforementioned disease, so the Judge suspended sentence and permitted Mat. to go to work, which in said to | be the best panacea for such peculiar illnesses. WOMAN DRAWS A PINE; MAN JUMPS HIS BAIL DOUGLAS. March 17.?Oscar Fors trom and Annie Mackie. should have [appeared in the municipal court this morning according to the rules of the police department, and answered to the charge of being disorderly. Oscar put up a bond of forty dollars last ev ening and said ho would defend him self in court today, but he did not ap ' pear and so forfeited his bail money. Annio showed up on tlnu and told her story to the Judge, who believed that she was only a trifle too exhuberant in her patriotic celebration of the Cel tic holiday, so he extracted a fine of five dollars from her and sent her to 1 her home in Juneau. The building has been repainted and papored both Inside and out and made more suitable for the display of fab rics. ST. PATRICK'S BALL AT DOUGLAS TONIGHT DOUGLAS. March 17.?Great prep arations are under way for the Alaska Catholic Club St. Patrick's ball that will take place at the Roller rink this evening. It is proposed to mnke it the best St. Patrick's ball that ever has taken place in this city. The Ladles' Auxiliary hus prepared an excellent supper which will be served at mid night in the balcony. A stand has been arranged in the center of the hall for the musicians and the floor Is in excellent condition. The grand march will begin at 9 o'clock sharp. The ferry boat will leave for Ju neau at 1:30 to accommodate thoso from that city. MEALS AND BOARD. Nice homo cooked meals; board by the day, week or month at Mrs. J. Latala's Boarding House next to City. Hall. Everything clean and new. BEAR HUNTERS* STORIES THRILL TREADWELL PEOPLE ?4? TREADWELL, March 17.?The stor ies of the five bear hunters, C. J. Opp crman, George Etz, J. J. Kennedy William Mitchell and Pierre de Mon tozan, increase in thrills with cacli telling of the harrowing details. The* bears have likewise taken on enorm ous proportions. In fact were not the men so well known some of their re citations would be unbelievable. Art tist Mecklem, like all men of genius, is one of the doubters and has gone so far as to sketch a cartoon depicting the scenes of the adventure, which sketch Is being shown around the club room where it is causing some diver sion. One of the men is shown as i doing the tango with a lop-eared bruin, another is jumping from peak to peak in pursuit of a hump-shouldered grizzly, while along the beach Is strewn dead carcasses like the heca tomes of Homer. But the adventur ers are home again and they are glad of It?so glad. ST. PATRICK'S BALL TONIGHT At Douglas Rink, given by the A. C. C. Admission, $1; ladies free. Spec inl ferry at 1:30. 4 4 MARINE NOTES I I a. 4 The Admiral Evans arrived from the Westward at 1:30 and departed for the South. The Humboldt, arriving from Skag way, will sail for the South at 5 o'clock tonight. The Spokane is expected to arrive from the South at five o'clock this ev ening. The Al-Ki should arrive ,from the South tomorrow morning. The Georgia arrived from Skagway this afternoon and will sail for Sitka tomorrow morning at 2 o'clock. The Princess Maquinna should ar rive from the South tonight or to morrow morning. The Admiral Sampson sailed from Seattle last night, from Seattle tonight. The Alameda is scheduled to sail from Seattle Friday night. t ? PERSONAL MENTION i ? W. P. Whitesides, who has been with the Britt Pharmacy for some time took passage for the States on the Admiral Evans today. Mrs Kunzig, wife of Lieut. Kunzig, of the Alaska Road Commission, ac companied by their children Is en route to the States on the Admiral Evans. James Hayden, well known mining man of Seward, passed through Ju neau on the Admiral Evans enroute to the States. D. W. Terwilliger returned on the Georgia today from a trip to Lynn canal ports. George Bettes, Alaska representa tive of the Seattle Brewing and Malt ing company arrived on the Georgia from Skagway. Mr. and Mrs. M. A. Wages have re moved from Juneau to Sheep creek where Mr. Wages has a position with the Alaska-Gastineau Mining com pany. Frank Fremming returned from Ju alin on the Georgia this afternoon.
