The girl beats the cowboys and earns the wager, which pays the mortgage on her mother's home. Two excellent comedies conclude a splendid program. POSTMASTER JACK TAKES CHARGE AFTER 6 O'CLOCK DOUGLAS, March 31.?Jack Frost Honson, newly appointed postmaster for the City of Douglas, takes control of Uncle Sam's affairs In the postof flee at six o'clock tonight. Mr. Hon son says that he will retain Miss May McCormlck as his assistant, the young lady having served as assistant post master under former Postmaster Rich ard McCormick, and is thoroughly fa miliar with the duties of the office. Mr. Henson has spent considerable time in learning the routine of the business, and will doubtless start off with a minimum of errors. For the present he docs not contemplnto mak ing any changes In the hours of op ening and closing the office and as sures the public that every service that can reasonably be expected will be granted. CONGREGATIONAL LADIES HOLD FAREWELL RECEPTION DOUGLAS. Murch 31.?In honor of Mrs. L. J. De Long, who will leave with Mr. De Long tomorrow for their new home in Wisconsin, the Ludies of the Congregational church are this af ternoon holding a farewell reception. Mr. and Mrs. De Long have been ac tive in the church and social affairs of the Island during their two years' resi dence here. ?+? + + DOUGLAS NEWS NOTES j I J DOUGLAS. March 31.?Fisher's Ci gar store is now in its new quarters where Mr. Fisher is busy putting things in order and adding to the dec orative features of the place. The City Bar has moved to the room formerly accupied by Mr. Fisher, while an archway connects the two rooms. Both places are being made homelike and comfortable. Algat Johnson and Nels S. Peterson were Seattle passengers on the Spo kane. which left Douglas this fore noon. The Spokane, which called in port yesterday morning disembarked eigh teen longshoremen. The ferryboat l.one Fishermen was signalled to and went alongside the Spokane for the purpose of receiving the passengers. Tom Davlen has rented his shoot ing gallery and disposed of his stock of cigars and tobaccos to Mrs. Kittle Brown, who will hereafter conduct the business. Mrs. Ray James will take passage ? on the Al-Ki for Seattle to spend a| few weeks among relatives and friends City Clerk Henson announces that the registration books will close Sat urday evening at six o'clock. His of fice will be open every evening until eight o'clock, thus giving ample op portunity for those to register who wish to do so. About two hundred - have registered up to this hour, and [" It is probable that another hundred will be added to the number of quali fied voters. Capt. T. J. Lindsetb. the local fish man has at last succeeded in getting in a fresh supply of halibut, cod and redsnappers. For the past two weeks there has been a shortage of strictly fresh fish on account of the non-ar- \ rival of fishing boats, but Mr. Llnd seth says he will now be able to take care of all orders. There will be a meeting of the St. Luke's Guild tomorrow (Wednesday) afternoon, at 2:30 o'clock at the home ? of Mrs. L. S. Ferris. A full attend- p anco is requested. Among the passengers at the south i sailing of the Al-Ki will be Mrs. I. D. i Carpenter, who is going to Seattle to ] visit her daughter, Mrs. Charles Rus- i sell, for a few weeks.
