DOUGLAS. May 2.?There will be

street has reopened under the manage
ment of John W. Blaise, formerly of
FOUND DEAD IN BED
DOUGLAS. May 2.?Anton Palotto,
a citizen of Douglas for the past 17
years, was found dead in his bed in
a cabin on St. Ann avenue this morn
ing. Paletto was a Prussian about 45
years of age, and for a number of
years past has been suffering from a
herna which caused him much trou
ble. He was known to the people of
the Island by the familiar name of
"Bismnrk" owing to his German ac
cent and to his ancestry.
When the milkman failed to arouso
him this morning at nlno o'clock, ho
becarno suspicious that something was
wrong and culled the assistance of
.Marshal Shafer and Mayor O'Connor,
who visited the room and found the
oid mail dead. Dr. Midford, with Un
dertaker Thomas were called and af
ter au examination the Doctor said
thut death had occurred pbrhnps at a
lute hour duriug the evening and was
caused by apoplexy.
Mayor O'Couor caused the person
al effects of the deceased to be exam
ined and found money in his purse to
the amount of |19.76, together with a
postal money ordor for three dollars
payablo to H. Floyd, tax collector at
St. Augustine, Fla. Letters from a sis
ter in Hasseudel, Prussia, were also
found and some addresses of peoplo
in the old country were among his
I Mayor O'Connor has takon charge
of the affairs of the dead man and the
burial will take place tomorrow. His
relatives will be communicated with
at once and an endeavor made to find
Ills heirs. Paletto was a person of
j considerable means, owning a number
of houses in Douglas.
Mr. Paletto remarked yesterday af
ternoon that he was not feeling well,
but he had boen on the streets during
the early evening and there was no
apparent Indication of the ailment
which caused his death.

MRS. M. DAVIS MAKES
ENJOYABLE SKETCHING TRIP
Mrs. Montgomery Davis, the artist,
has just returned from a two weeks'
painting aud sketching trip on the Cor
delia D. around Admiralty island. She
says the scenery was beautiful all the
way and the trip very enjoyable. She
brought twenty-four sketches back
"Our first stop was at Sumdum,"
said Mrs. Davis, "where two days were
spent at York's. Fox island, and then
Chapin bay came next. Three days
were spent at the last named place on
account of stormy weather. Then came
Killisnoo and Funter bay.
"We witnessed some exquisite sun
sets, and the fishing was excellent.
The trip was thoroughly enjoyed,
though the weather was cold a good
deal of the time."
Mrs. Davis was accompauled on the
trip by her daughter and two sons.
