May 6.?Mr. and Mrs. de Wolf. of San Francisco, have moved to Douglas and are now occupying rooms in the Henson building. Mr. deWolf represents Baker & Hamilton of San Francisco, and is taking a lay off for a few weeks while negotiating a business deal in this city. The Lyric theatre has arranged for a series of amateur nights beginning uoxt week. In connection with the reels of pictures a number of special ties will be introduced, selected main ly from Douglas and Treadwell talent. Tonight the members of the Tread well dancing club will hold another of their twice a month dances. There will be a strawberry festival and sale given by the Young Ladies' Sodality in the Alaska Catholic club room, on May 19th. Albin Baritello made a business trip to Speel river yesterday in the Riede launch, and took as his guests Paul Bloedhorn aud Fred Hile. Mr. Hlle acting as chaperon to the party. The Spokane will leave Juneau at II o'clock tonight, calling at Doug las first. Among tho passengers will be H. O. Stevens. The City of Seattle left Seatlto last night, with 27 tons of frolght for Doug las. Mrs. Charles A. Hopp, wife of tho editor of the Douglas Island Nows, who has been visiting In Seattle for Sev eral weeks, Is a home-coming passen ger on tho Humboldt which Is due to arrive Saturday. BIG DOUGLAS HOTEL DEAL GOESTHROUGh DOUGLAS, May 6.?As announced In Tho Empire last evening the deal for the construction of a hotel on tho corner of D and Front streets, in Doug las, has been consummated and the work of building will begin at once. The Douglas Hotel Companyl with E. H. doWolf, well konwn former Al askan and for some time past repre senting Baker & Hamilton of San Francisco, is at the head of the corpor ation and the stock holders constitute some of the best known men in Doug las and Alaska. Mr. deWolf is here today arranging tho details for con struction, full plans of which will be given to the press within a short time. John Feusl has sold his property holdings to the new company which now has complete control of the grounds upon which the structure is to be built, the deeds having been transferred this morning. DOUGLAS, May 6.?John Torviner, formerly employed In a tailoring es tablishment in Juneau, has secured a house on St. Ann avenue, which is be ing remodeled into a store building wherein he will open a tailoring es tablishment within a few days. Mr. Torviner has had a new store front put in the building and aside from tail oring will also do repair work and pressing. TREADWELL NOTES. I J JUNEAU HIGH DEFEATED BY TREADWELL PICK-UPS TREADWELL, May 6.?The Juneau high school nine came over yesterday to play the nine from the cyanide plant, but owing to the fact that the boys from that place did not get off shift in time to meet them, a team was picked uo from the various depart ments. which proceeded to take the boys from across the channel into camp, defeating them by a score of 5 to 4. May 6?There was a meeting of the Treadwell baseball members last night at which an or ganization was formed to enter the four corneder contests, soon to begin among the various departments. + h MARINE NOTES I 4 4 The Jefferson reached Ketchikan to day noon and is exepcted to arrive here tomorrow afternoon. The Spokane, arriving from Skag way, will sail South from Juneau to night at 11 o'clock. The Mariposa, sailing from Seattle last night, should arrive in Juneau Saturday. The Humboldt will arrive from the South Saturday. The Al-Ki is scheduled to arrive from the South Saturday. The Admiral Sampson is expected from the Westward Sunday.
