I.eo Stadler has taken a position at the Island Hotel where he will serve | in the capacity of manager. Mr. Stadler was formerly employed at the Hunter Hotel, but for the past year or so has been in the East. Lumber is being placed on the ground for repairs to the sidewalk near the Treadwoll postofllce. Mayor O'Connor is out of the city today visiting his mining property. The First Teritorial Bank is giv ing away a very useful souvenir for this brand of weather, consisting of ueat rubber caps. Anyone calling at the local financial institution may have one. The Humboldt arrived in Douglas today at noon with 46 tons of general freight, among which is a consign ment of steel celling and wall finish ing for the Island Hotel. There were eight passengers: Mrs. Adolph Ruck ert and two children. Adjutant Smith and five steerage. After an absence of something more than a year Mrs. Ruckert and children arrived today on the Humboldt. They will take up their residence in the Ruckert. Among the returning passengers ar riving on the Humboldt were Mr. and Mrs. John Rustgard. DOUGLAS LADIES TO MEET THURSDAY AFTERNOON DOUGLAS. May 27. ? The Ladies' League of the Congregational church will meet Thursday afternoon in their rooms. The ladies arc invited to rest from their housecleaning and enjoy the afternoon together. KOYUKUK MINERS FIND A BIG $2600 NUGGET) William Redmond, a miner on Ham mond creek in the Koyukuk country, on ground being worked by himself and associates picked up a nugget of gold worth $2,600. With it was found $1,000 in smaller nuggets and fine gold all in three pans of dirt. The big nug gets were found at the bottom of an 80-foot shaft.
