OPEN HOUSE TO BE !N ORDER ON NEW YEAR'S DAY Scottish Rite Bodies Will Follow Their Usual Custom as Will Others. From present Indications the New Year will receive its usual hearty welcome in Juneau. An unusually largo number of privato homes arc planning to hold open house on Mon day where good cheer and tea will be dispensed during the afternoon. The fraternal organizations of the city are abo taking an active part In the Now Year's festivities. Ac cording to their annual custom the Scottish Rite bodies of Juneau will hold open house in their lodge room at Odd Fellows' Hall from two to five o'clock. This reception Is for all Masons of whatever degree, and in yearn past has been an enjoyable event. The Elks will abo hold op en house in their club rooms for the members and the usual ring of good cheer for which this institution 1h noted, will doubtless be as hearty as ever. This is the first year the Arctic Brotherhood have had their own home, and there will also be "things doing" there for the members on New Year's Day. LAW TO PROTECT CREDITORS WILL BE CONSIDERED (Continued from Page 1.) provisions of this Act from his cred-i itors ns shown by such verified state ments, then and in that case the j provisions of this section shall not apply." Local People Favor Plan. Juneau business men believe that such a law should be placed on the statute books. Many small busi ness houses started in the fast growing towns of Alaska within the last few years have been short-lived ?usually because of the lack of suf ficient capital, but sometimes be cause of inefficient management. But before these places have been closed out, the owner would sell his stock of goods in bulk to someone for what he could got out of it, aud j the creditors have been compelled to "hold the sack." Some of these business houses have been sold out several times, and each sale has left a bunch of unsatisfied and uncol lectablc debts. Those business men j of Juneau with whom the matter has been discussed believe that the law should provide for the protection of the creditors in any sale of any business In bulk. Many of them have been caught by failures and bulk,' sales that followed.
