MANY ARE RECOVERING Health Authorities Advise Greatest Care: Adher ance of Quarantine Regulation. Health authorities today In Juneau report numerous rases of influenza or pneumonia and advise all having the slightest suggestion of a cold or illness, to use the greatest of precau tions. Only one death from the disease has occurred so far in Juneau. There are several persons at the hospitals md various homes who are very ill. There are eight cases in the Juneau General hospital, all of which are reported to be improving. There are three new cases of the disease at St. Ann Hospital, two be ing workmen from the Wort hen num ber Mills who entered recently, a Hindu and Russian who are believed to be improving. A Russian Finn was taken to St. Ann hospital last night very sick and he is reported to he just about holding his own today Nearly every business house in luneau feels the loss of one or more if its employees from either the dis ease or bad colds. Dr. Dawes reports Mr. and .Mrs. Gd, Hurlhut, the child of Mr and Mrs. P. E. Peterson, Carl Dahl wife ind child, and A. Forslin and wife is new cases while approximately en or fifteen cases of the disease under his care are now improving. Dr. Sloane reports that there are between 100 and 150 cases of Span sh influenza now in the city of Ju neau and some are very low with he disease. He states that there will he a further spread of the dis nase unless more precautions are ta :en. He advocates the use of masks for everyone for the protection of others. Influenza At Nome Gov. Thomas Higgs. Jr., today re ceived the following from Mayor Homan of Nome: “We call it influenza. Both hos pitals are full and sickness in very many homes. Walter Shields died last night. Neuman is in a fair way to recover. About 25 deaths among •he Natives, most of them are sick. Dr. Burson and Kit Tilson active. We have our hands more than full. The Judge and Marshall are still in bed. Physicians Appointed By authority to the Governor of Alaska, by the Surgeon General of the United States Health Service, temporary Assistant surgeons of the pubilc health service have been ap pointed at Petersburg, Wrangell, Skagway, Sitka, Latouche and Chich agof. Notice To Natives Juneau, November 7, 1918. To all Alaska Natives: On account of the prevalence of influenza, all Natives (Indians) are warned as follows: (1) Do not visit at another Na tive's house. (2) Keep your house well aired. (3) Wear influenza masks. (4) Avoid any gathering. (5) If you have a cold or fever go to bed and stay there until well. (fi) A potlatch is absolutely for bidden, and any Native attempting to get up a potlatch will be prosecut ed. (7) Stay in your own village. I)o not attempt to visit any neighboring village and do not allow a native from another vilalge to visit you. Five deaths are reported from the infleunza now reported from Metlakatla. NOTICE.
