ISLAND NEWS Douglas Home Gutted by Fire Resulting from Overheated j. SteTeipl hundred dollars damage resulted from a tire that consumed much of the interior wood work wall paper and decorations ot the Oust Moval house on Third and B. Streets last night and which was only extinguished after two streams of water and a considerable quan tlty Of chemicals were poured Sn the blaze. Gus Wahto. with his family occupied the building, and be was C|uite severely burned about the face and hands in rescuing some of his (children from the blaze and in trying to control it. The fire started about ten o'clock1 and waft caused by excessive heat Ip the kitchen stove. The family j was in another room and did not! know of tho start until the kitchen I was fairly in a blaze. It was with the utmost difficulty that tho par-; ents rescued their four small child ren who were sleeping in various parts of tho building. With the ex ception of a trunk, no personal be longings were saved from the fire qnd water. Stove—Much The £lre alarm was answered by a., sled, hose cart and chemical en gine from Hose Company No. One. and a chemical engine from Company Four. Two stream* of water, one [ fresh and one salt, and two chemical streams were played on the interior] of the building for some time be fore the blaze was entirely subdued^ On account of the house being charged with electricity, many of the firemen were quito badly shocked but kept at their posts on the var lous posts on the hose lines. The Moval house was one of the I newest and best residences in Doug las and built but a few years ago. Its owner lives in Tacoma at the present time. The alarm of last night was the first turned in at Douglas in more than a year.
