(Juneau Empire) We read with a great deal of satisfaction the news dispatch in the Empire that “Tony Dimond is going to offer his services to the. people of Alaska again as their Delegate to Congress. We have an idea that a big majority of the people of the Territory feel the same way about it, for Anthony J. Dimond has assayed high grade as Alaska’s No. 1 sales man in Washington, D. C. He has done the job for which he was elected in excellent fashion wfhich is about all any one can ask. For three terms “Tony” has been down there in Washington as a Democrat selling the Terri tory's needs to Congress and the nation. He first went down in 1932, again in 1934 and last time in 1936. Now if the people want him he’s willing to go back this tall for his fourth term. We have ^ a hunch the people are going to ■ want him. You don’t pick up a I cracksrjack Alaska salesman ev ery day, and “Tony” is “tops,” therefore we feel Alaskans are going to insist that he stay on. t shouldn’t be overlooked that Aflaska has only a Delegate to Congress. He isn’t a representa tive like the States have with the power to vote. The only voting the Alaska Delegate can do is through some representative. That is why the man who represents Alaska has got to be something more than just a politician elect ed to office. He has to be a sales man of the first water. He, has to know how, when and where to get before the committees and the proper government heads with his proposals and desires. He hasn't any state delegation to fall back on or a Senator from his State to boost him. He has to go it alone. And it is our be lief that “Tony” Dimond has gone it alone in Congress in mighty able fashion. There’s a true story about ‘Tony’ which we Chink depicts ithe cali ber of man Alaska has back in Washington better than any oth er single thing. In the closing hours of the 1935 session, the House was in a bedlam. Every State delegation was trying to squeeze through its pet bill at the last moment. In Chat wild scene, Delegate Dimond, who had been promised a hearing, rose on the floor of the House. Th late Speaker Rainey, ignoring the potent shouts of powerful R pre sen tat ives, recognized the Dele gate from Alaska who -was given ample time to present his case. We like that story not beiaause of any particular piece of legisla tion “Tony” put over. As a mat ter of fact, we can't remember now just what it was. But we like it because it shows the high regard in Which “Tony” Dimond is held in Washington and tha at tention he can gain in the places where it counts. Thart’s our idea of a No. 1 Alaska salesman. The above editoriafl from a re cent issue of the Juneau Empire, the Editor of The Nome Nugget, believes sums up everyithing that we would gladly vouch for, and in fact leaves nothing else to say but, that we are of the opinion that Anthony J. Dimond will be our next delegate to Congress from Alaska, and we also believe that the people of Nome and the Second Division of Alaska want to see him reelected as our Dele gate again. It would not surprise: us kf the republicans were un- ( able to find a candidate worthy: of the position, who wild be will-! ing to enter the race and to be sacrificed in order that there, be shown some opposition. We read that the Japanese be lieve they can rid China of un friendly thoughts toward them by education.
