S. Tour LONDON, (/P) — Smiling radi antly, Princess Elizabeth came back to London Saturday after a six-weeks trip to Canada and the United States. Elizabeth stepped quickly from the special railway coach which had brought her and the Duke of Edinburgh from Liverpool and rushed up to her mother, Queen Elizabeth, who had been waiting on the platform at grimy Euston station for 15 minutes. “It’s wonderful to be back,” she murmured to her mother, whom she kissed on both cheeks. Then she almost knelt on the red-carpeted station platform and hugged her son, three-year-old Prince Charles, who seemed com pletely self-assurtd. Thousands of people standing in a pelting rain around the sta j tion let out a roar of w-elcome at the first glimpse of the princess. Chinese Girl Writes Rhode Island Thanksgiving l lay Proclamation PROVIDENCE, R. I., (/P) — A little Chinese girl wrote what was in her heart and today her composition was issued as the of- j ficial Thanksgiving Day procla mation of historic Rhode Island. The document bore the signa ture of Gov. Dennis J. Roberts, but the words were those of Ro berta Fong, 17, winner of a state wide high school competition for the honor. Robert’s ancestors were not Mayflower passengers, but this is what she wrote: “More than 300 years ago, our Pilgrim forefathers invited the In dians to join them in a day of celebration on which they would thank God for his goodness to them in their new home. We re member that the Indians brought gifts to the white man’s table; and that warriors and Pilgrims sat side by side in peace. We know that this was the first Thanks giving Day; a day which has since become a national holiday. “Though our way of life today little resembles that of our an cestors, we still feel in our hearts the same gratitude to our land. Soon we shall celebrate another Thanksgiving Day. Across the na tion, famiiles will bow their heads in reverence and thank God for his infinte goodness. Particularly in these times of unrest and suf fering, we shall realize how many reasons we have to be thankful. “Here in America we enjoy the privileges and rights which have elevated our standard of living to the highest in the world. . . “As we observe Thanksgiving * this year, let us remember the principles on which this day was founded. May it be a day of prayer, praise and thankfulness.” Roberta’s father, an army vet eran, is an aviation mechanic stu dent under the GI bill. Her mo ther is an restaurant employe.
