Last Year's Inupiat Paitot THIS IS BARROW—The village of Barrow was the site of the first Innplat Paitot meeting held Novem ber 15-17 last year. The conference brought together for the first time In history representatives of Eskimo communities throughout the forty-ninth state. Workshop sessions were held In the Top of the World Hotel and a concluding general session was held at the village theater. INTERIOR OFFICIAL—Assistant Secretary of Interior John A. Carver attended last year“s Inuplat F'aitot meeting at Barrow and assured those at the meeting that he would do everything within his power when he got back to Washington to see that natural gas from a nearby field was obtained for Barrow people. Legislation sponsored by the Alaska delegation has since been passed and signed by President Kennedy allowing a third well to be dug at Barrow, the gas from which can be bought by Barrow residents. INUPIAT PAITOT BANQUET—Caribou steak was served at a banquet held at the native store cafe at Barrow during last year’s Inuplat Paitot meeti ig. Newly, elected council members were invited and attended the banquet along with the delegates of 16 Villages at the conference. Twenty-five villages have been invited to attend the second Inupiat Paitot meeting at Kotzebue this week. CONCLUDING EVENT—For the visiting delegates a general Eskimo dance was given on the night of November 18, of the Pt. Barrow Inupiat Paitot meeting last year. The spontaneous dance gained mo mentum and lasted until about 3 a.m. the next morning. no ’ f f promises just results Democratic Candidate Eugene F.
