The following is ft wirrpft stjitpmont
raised by Stevens 6c Cureton, on 1 1 z acres of stubble
land, which was manured with 400 tons of Caroli
na Fertilizer. The following is the mxlc of cultiva
tion, it was thoroughly broken up 12 inches deep and
laid of in rows feet wide and the Fertilizer
applied in the drill, then bedded on it,
ou the 15th 3Iay and planted the same day, but
owing to the cool and dry weather did not come up
to a stand until about the 1st of June. 1st working it
was run around with a half shovel partially thined
out with a hoe. 2nd working it was run around
with a 3 inch grab, 12 inches Ions, and the middles
thrown out with a sweep 18 inches wide. One
furrow to the row, and thined to a stand with a hoe
aliout 12 inches between the Stalks, and afterwards
it was plowed every 2 weeks with a sweep 18 inches
wide, and hoed each time, until it was worked five
times.

Revenue Tax on Tobacco.
The following decision of the Commis
sioner of lievenue was addressed to the As
sessor of the Raleigh District, under date of
Oct. 2Sth :
Sir: In reply to your letter of Oct. 24th,
in relation to peddling manufactured tobac
co, I have to say that a manufacturer of to
bacco may sell his product anywhere in the
United States without paying a special tax
as a dealer in tobacco, but he can. sell only
in the original and unbroken packages. He
may send out an employee to peddle for
him, who may sell in the same manner and
under the same conditions as the manufac
turer.
A peddler of tobacco, who is not an em
ployee of the manufacturer, and whose sales
exceed $100 per annum, is liable to a special
tax as a dealer in tobacco in the manner of
a peddler, and such a peddler who has paid
the special tax for so selling tobacco, may
retail from wooden packages, packed and
stamped according to law.

Forwarding Letters. -Letters taken
from the postofHce by private parties can
not be legally forwarded, without the pre
payment of postage. It frequently occurs
that persons take letters from the office, re
direct them, and again drop them in the
office. All such letters, under the regula
tions of the department, must be sent to the
dead letter ollice. If it is desired to for
ward a letter, the order should be given at
the office without taking the letter there
from ; in such cases letters are forwarded
without additional postage.
For fifteen years I suffered from disordered Liver;
but since I used one package of Simmons' Liver
Regulator, to this da', which is now several years, I
have been comparatively a sound man.
