Aaelu 'call maa may be tb father of lllitcrat children, but tbo children of educated women are never llllierate. Tbreefourths of all tbe educated women In North Car olina spend a part of each day educating their own children or tbe children of others, whereas, three-fourtbs of tbe educated men In tbe State spend a very short time daily with their own children, to say nothing of educating them. Money Invested in tbe education of a man Is a good investment, but tbe dlvl dend which It yields fa frequently con fined to one generation and Is of tbe material kind. It strengthens his judg ment, gives him foresight, and makes him a more productive laborer In any field of activity. It does the samo thing for a womao, but ber field of activity is usually In company with children, and, therefore, the money invested In the education of a woman yields better educational divi dend than that invested In the education of a man. My contention, therefore, is that tbe Slate, for tbe sake of Its present and future educational Interest, ought te decree that for every dollar pent by the government, State or Federal, in tbe trainifg of men, at least another dollar ought to be Invested In tbe work of educating womankind. 7 RESIDENCE OF MRS T.
