Dmily Delta. A Youxa Lady's Views. The New York Day Book publishes a letter, from a young lady, dated Magnolia Vale, Texas, .Sept. 18th, horn which we1 extract as follows : j I suppose Republicans will say "what has a young girl to do with the Presidential election?" I admit ! that we have no voice in the matter, nor do we wish i , . . T . 1 . . 1 t - ! to have, DUt mat uoes noi prevem us iroiu lading a deep interest in it, especially when it concerns our future welfare so much. Could the Republicans have seen the blanched cheeks of women, or the terror-struck faces of little children, when they first heard of the insurrection when they found their donth nortions all around them they would not wonder that we took such interest in the election. J f.reckinridge and Lane are the choice of every true Southerner, and I trust of many of our good friends at the North. How I revere and esteem those noble Democrats at the North that defend Southern rights! There is not much merit in Southerners defending their own rights, for it is natural that they should, and we think them insane or traitorous if they do not, but at the North it is very different. "When we sec you and all the good Northern men conten ing nobly for what you know to be our just rights, it warms the heart of Southerners, especially the ladies, and we bless you a thousand times. I did not think it possible that any one here could favor any other than B. and L., bi't have heard lately of one Bell and Everett man, though I think that he is half ashamed to own it. We must elect B. and L. by all means. Who would have Lincoln," the negro worshipper, in the Presidential chair ? Not I, for one. 1 would as soon think of putting a ne gro there at once. Where is the difference ? A negro would do as much good and a great deal less harm. I know of but one thing that Mr. Lincoln could assist us in at. present : father speaks of re moving to an unimproved place, and would like to ene iace him to split rails for a few days I hear that he is a tremendous hand Pt that. Now, gentlemen, A Female Duellist. A curious fact is related as having taken place at Berlin. At a first class hotel in that city a political discussion arose at the table'd! hote, which grew rather warm, during which some personal remarks were passed between two young men hitherto strangers. They left the table and cards were exchanged ; the result was that th young man, a stranger to Berlin, sent a letter, rc qanotmg n .1 fryovi.iau of pistol. The letter how ever, fell into the hands of the sister or the young man, who conceived the extraordinary notion of impersonating her brother, to whom she is devoted lv attached the idea of dansrer to him being more insupportable than death to her. like brother, she trusted the truth covered; and she actually appeared on the ftVld at the appointed hour. The place of meeting was that where Herrvon Hinkeldy was killed some two or three years ago. The opponent was, however, not deceived by this false appropriation of the pan taloons, though willing, oit of gallantry, to humor the fair one, and frighten her for her frolic, so be took his place, and, as he obtained the right of first fire, levelled his pistol at his fair antagonist for a time. She did not, however, flinch ; and he was forced at last to fire in the air. The turn of the young lady came, and she was in no wise ncrv ous about using her rights, and shot the young man in the shoulder. The wound was light Tho matter is in the hands of the police, l m a ieweLer : I have just set the jewel. CALEWELL. THE FINAL DESTINY OF THE EARTH. Enck's comet, which revolves about the sun in three years and a half, has been observed to' com plete its revolution in a constantly shortening pe riod, showing thatit is being drawn inward towards the sun. This fact has led to the general conclu sion by astronomers that the planets are moving in a resisting medium, far more attenuated than our atmosphere, but still sufficient to ali'ect their mo tions. If this is so, it follows by strict necessity Lot nur :irtb and its sister orbs are all winding spirally towards the sun, and that they must even I tually strike against it and become incorporated with its mass. The time required for this purpose ! belongs to those inconceivable periods with which ecology and astronomy have to deal. The resist L g medium is so exceedingly attenuated that it ex erts but a slight influence on the comets, which are Lia masses of the very thinnest vapor, and its influence would of course be very much less on the dense matter of the planets. a ctrrmnmical observations, with all their won derful delicacy, have yet failed to detect the slight est progressive shortening in the periods of revolu tion of "any of the planets. It is curious, however, to note the multiplied obstacles which prevent the hwfipt if it does exist. "Ail the mea- perecpuou j ....... , sures of these revolutions; are shorteninj New Yokk Politics. If tho Nortq unites in a crusade against the Constitution and the rights of the South, surely the whole South should unite in defence of her own rights and the Constitution und?r which they are guaranteed. Ic would be worse thou folly it would be suicid al for the South to divide her strength and throw away her votes upon Bell or Douglas in such a crisis as the present.
