He has lieen over nine years in the service and has been on duty in Colorado, Cuhar, Michigan, Ohio and now in Alaska. He is just as fond of the girls as ever. Otto Hansen lavs received the contract to erect a large handsome two story building on Reservation Ave. north of the Moose Isiilding. Crawford and Rutherford have tin contract to furnish the lumber and are working night and day to fill the order. Anderson in command, arrived here yesterday and was the first steamer to tie up at the new wharf. .The Chico was only eight d«vs from Seal tie to this port. Pleasant weather was encountered until off the mouth of Prince William Sound when they ran into a storm that compelled them to seek shelter for several hours. 'Ibis company is under the man agement of E. J. Linden who was for several years purser of the Bertha and by his courteous and kind treatment of passengers and shippers has made many friends all along frhe line, and no doubt will draw a large percentage of the trade from this section. Purser Homer of the Chico is also well known throughout Alaska, being purser of Bora and Bertha for several vears. The Chico brought six passengers, and some freight, but no mail. She will leave Seattle the oth of each month for this place. John Hanson returned from Slate creek yesterday. He left there later than Dr. Bartlett and reports all well. Some of the push went up t’liesna hut the majority continued up the Chistuchina to Slate creek. Some are husv whip sawing while others have purchased lumber from Hn/.let dr Mealsat 175 per thousand. Hanson sledded to the Copper river and from the Chestuehimi hi1 took to the trail, which he says is in bad condition. Marshal Hasey failed to find \V. D. Hcidhorn for whom he went to Kllamar with a warrant of arrest. Hcidhorn having left for parts un known. However he brought back a native from Tatitlek who was charged with stealing a boat, and on trial before Judge Lyon- was found guilty and sen diced to sixty days in jail at this place. Th * culprit is looked uj on by the natives as hiyu sonig. Company (1.7th Infantry now stationed at Ft. Liscum, has just received orders from the war de partment, to return to the States on the next trip of the Bertha. They will Ik* relieved by tla* M2nd Com pany. Coast Artillery. Establish a Base Bine. Building operations are now about to begin, anil there will no doubt be a large amount done this season. Lots have been sold with out any definite knowledge as to the exact boundary line, so that any one about to build runs a chance of getting the structure over on to the street or on his neighbors prop erty. The proper survey of a lot cannot be made as we have no exact points from which to start a survey of ativ part of the town. This evil can be remedied by the town council authorizing the es tablishment wf a luiso-lrne that will do. for all time, and from which any measurement may be taken in the future. Surveyor Adams volunteers to lay out this very necessary line, provided the council will authorize him to do the work, and supply him with the help needed, which they should do without delay. Born.
