P. club is planning a very swell l>ali for New Year’s eve. it has not been decided at which hall it will be given, but every effort is Iwing put forth to make "it a very enjoyable affair. The electric light plant arrived on tin- Nome City and with it came Mr. H. H. Knox, an electrician ffom Nome who was sent here to insist Mr. Quinn in installing the the plant. Leaved and Kramer, members of the company, are in Seattle and will lie tip soon, while Mayor Steel was unexpectedly called to New York. The Valdec Distilled Soda Water Co. is now in full running order and making a very superior article. Saloons and others should patronize the new tirm as it is a home indus try and liesiiles it will prove to lie a money-saver to consumers, as there is no freight to pay on a lot of 1 Kittles that are useless when empty. On Thanksgiving day tin manager furnished a large supply of soda and distilled waters at the dinner given by Mr. and Mrs. Her man Svring. at" their home, and a'l were agreeably surprised at the superior quality of their goods. The Eagles, a large and flourish ing society that has in a very few years found its way into every city and town in the Union has at last found its way into Valdez. The members in town, to the extent of uhout flftv, came together last Sun day in Keystone hall. As a club they have applied to the head lodge or aerie for a charter in order to liecotue a regular branch of the order. The society has from its very beginning been known as a charitably dispo.-ed ltody of men and the very first action taken hv this local lodge tends to keep up that reputation. At last Sunday’s meeting it was unanimously de cided to give a hall, with the under standing that the proceeds would be applied to the erection of a hos pital. A committee of five, with Dr. Boyle as chuirman, was given full power to act and every detail will be pushed along to make this charitable affair a perfect success. Citation. Moore, arrive*I in this I»ort a»M>ut 2 o’clock Wednesday morning,and after several attempts in the face of one of the severest gales ever ex{>erieiiced in Valdez Imiv, finally made hist to the wharf. When everything was sup]K>sed to l»e secure she suddenly parted her lines and in n very short time was several hundred yards from the wharf. It was useless to attempt a landing again before daylight, so she steamed down the bay to Ft. : l-iscnm where she lay all day vos ; terday and last night unloading j 100 tons freigiit for the Fort. The storm having subsided the | steamer landed here todav about ; 10 o’clock. The Nome City is a splendid sen | worthy vessel built in lytX) for the | Nome trade. She has first-class ! passenger accommodations. With ! Capt. Z. S. Moore in charge and Frank Baker as purser, the Nome City will be a winner in the Valdez trade. On this,her first Valdez trip, the Nome City left Seattle on Nov. 26, making the trip in less than six days, stopping en route at Sitka, and Yakutat. She carried 26 first-class passengers, 212 tons of freight and 115,000 feet of lumlter for this place.
