WANTHENEY IN ALASKA Pan Francisco, May 16—Prose cutor Honey has been approached bv a delegation of Ahiskans, ask ing that he go north and help in the prosecution of men who have been jumping claims and giving perjured testimony to uphold their cases in court. He said that his time was fully occupied for a year yet, but that he would consider the matter later. Rome, May 16—Mount Aetna is now emitting dense smoke and ashes from the crater and the, iam ple are greatly alarmed over the possibility of an eruption. Last night a heavy thunder storm was raging around the summit of the volcano. PROSECUTE IIARRIMAN Washington, May 16—Following an announcement made yesterday by the interstate commerce com i j mission in the report on the trial ; of liarriman, to the effect that all competition among the western j roads has been eradicated by ITar ! riman, Roosevelt directed the de j i partment of justice to start crimi nal prosecution against the rail road magnate for conspiracy in j restraint of trade. An action will he started as soon as the matter can he put in shape by the depart ment. A. G. Baker is now in the Val dez hospital suffering from an at tack of erysipelas. He was taken ill day before yesterday, and re moved to the hospital. The office he has been occupying in the Cop per Exchange, lias been closed and fumigated. MINERS ARE ENJOINED Fairbanks. May 16—An in junction has been granted the min ing operators, preventing any of tlie striking miners from interfer ing in any wa\ with the^workings, or the non-union men who have been employed in their places. There is no prospect of a speedy settlement of the strike. § £l)es Moines. This is the cose which Judge Wicker sham Refused to try, and for which | Judge Gunnison came to Fair 1 banks. The interests involved were very great and valuable, and this Settlement will throw a large num ber of rich claims out of litigation and enable them to be worked. New York, May 16—An ivory crucifix valued at $50,000 was stolen from the home of Dr. Carter I i last night. There is no positive clue to the thief, but it is believed to have been an arc collector, who wished to own the valuable relic. Washington, May 16—It has been determined that Vice-presi dent Fairbanks will visit Alaska j during the summer, but the de tails of route and time of coming aie not k* frangeu. San Francisco, May 16—Abe Kuef pleaded guiUy to the charges against him of practicing extortion on the French restaurants of the city, and will be sentenced a week from Monday. After pleading Kuef ollansetl entirely and had to he carried from the court room. Mayor Schmitz, who was indicted jointly with Kuef on the same charge, will have Ids trial Monday, lit? declares he wi’l stand pat, but Honey says he has a better ensrt against the mayor than again** Kuef.
