Gladness Comas li Tfth. a better understanding of the transient nature of the many pliya ical ills which vanish before proper ef fortsgentle efforts pleasant efforts .rightly directed- There is comfort in the knowledge that so many forms of aiexness are not due to any actual dis ease, but simolv to a constipated confli- tion ofthe system, which the pleasant iarauj laxative, oyrup 01 rigs, prompt ly removes. That is why it Is the only remedy with millions of families, and is everywhere esteemed so highly bv all wno value good health. Its benehcial effects are due to the fact, that it is the one remedy which promotes internal cleanliness, without debilitating .the organs on which it acts. It is therefore all important, in order to get its bene ficial effects, to note when you pur chase, that you have the genuine article, which is manufactured by the California Fig Syrup Co. .only, and sold by all xfcp- If in the enjoyment of good health, &nd the system is regular, then laxa tives or other remedies are not needed. If afflicted with any actual disease, one may be commended to the most skillful physicians, but if in -need. of a -laxative, then one should have the best, and with the well-informed everywhere, Syrup of Figs stands highest and is most largely .used and gives most general satisfaction, . Suncbiy evening a crowd boarded Xhe train for Blaisdell, at which station the com pany conveyances met and drove them to the mine. This trip, in itself, was most enjoyable, and brought out the sparkling wit of several of the party as our frjend Huson will be glad to testify! Upon arrival at the camp ail excellent supper was served, and short Jy after comfortable beds w'ere luring the party to innocent slumber. Monday morning, the genial fore man, Joe Golden pilotpd them through the mine and mill, explaining the workings and machinery. Towards evening another band of visitors from Yuma arrived and it was undoubtedly a case of "the more the merrier." Not until Monday night, however, was the real glory of La Fortuna made manifest. A hall artistically decorat ed, a good floor combined with sweet music, made it impossible for one to resist the temptation ot indulging the "light fantistic." The hospitality of La Fortuna boys will long be remembered, and when they visit Yuma the' can expect right royal welcome. The Tyranny of the Desk. The help it needs, is to dicest vour food. and. until it gets it, you won't have any peace. Stomach trouble is very dis tressing, very obstinate, very danger ous. Many ot the mostdangerour dis eases begin with simply indigestion. The reason is that indigestion (not digestion, rcof-nourishment) weakens the system and allows disease germs to attack it. The antidote is Shaker Digestive Cordial, strengthening, nour ishing, curative. It cures indigestion and renews strength and health. It does this by strengthening the stom ach, by helping it to digest your food. It nourishes you. The Golden Dream Mining Co. is crowding the work with 25 men on its six shafts and two tunnels with ex cellent results. There has been a steady improvement on the quantity and quality of the ore bodies. Lust Saturday Miguel Garcia, who has the contract on the Little Frank mine, struck very rich or.e m the Apache shaft which continues to improve and which promises to be a bonanza. This was followed on Monday by Adolfo Sambrauo, who is sinking the shaft on another mine of the gronp, striking ore rich in free gold, visable to the eye. The same day the Villa Bros, struck it ricli in their tunnel on the Golden D. K. mine, taking out the richest ore ever found at Picacho. This vein has been cross cut for 54 feet with neither wall in sight. This tunnel and the Sambrano shaft are both about within 1,000 feet from the Golden Dream mill, while the Little Frank mine is only one-half mile distance. " i These new and rich discoveries add new interests to the nimes in the White Gold Basin. The Golden Dream Co.'s mill, will be .ready to ship on the iUh. The. company will crowd the work on its other mines as fast as men and money -can do it. It has already given orders to have the work pushed. Only home labor is employed preference being ivan to worthy men having families who live at and near Picacho. Senator Dorsey sailed from New York for London on tholGth inst where he has succeeded in raising the capital necessary to carry out all of his plans on a grand sale. The Picacho mines are so close to Yuma the natural supply point, that these facts are of .the utmostinterest to the town at this time. The lew hund reds of dollars beiny paid out weekly b' the Golden Dream Co. which pays its men every Saturday night, is. an item of no small interest. A Timely Reminder. Each season forces upon our consid eration its own peculiar perils to health. The advent of fall finds many reduced in strength and vigor, poorly prepared to continue the business of life. The stomach and bowels, the great highway of animal economy, is esp cially liable to disorder in the fall. T.he nqrvous system has also suffered in the struggle. Tvphoid fever and malaria in particular find in the fall that combination of earth, air and water .that mark this season as es pecially dangerous. The falling leaves, the decayihg vegetables contribute their share of contamination. Hood's Sarsaparilla furnishes a most valuable safeguard at these important points, and should be used in the fall before serious sickness has laid vou low. Yuma Is on the High Road of Pros-perlty. The wav in which Yuma is building up is certainly most satisfactory to all residents of the town, the surrounding country, and the Territory at large. There is one new brick business block in progress of construction, and many houses of less pretensions are appear ing in different portions of the town. Do not understand thatJbhere is any boom about it, at all, but the growth is steady, constant and substantial. With a rich agricultural and mining country surrounding it for miles in every direction, the reason for Yuma's material progress is very plain. The growtli of orange, lemon and lime ,tress in and around the city by the Colorado is just simply wonderful, and leads an observer to the conclu sion that all the elements of success ful fruit cultures are peculiarly com bined hei e. In J. W. Dorrington's yard is a sam ple of the prolific growth and bearing of orange, lemon and lime trees. Nearly every one of the lime trees is so heavily loaded with fruit that in order to save them, it is necessary to prop up the limbs with pole3. One of the tree?, before the weight of its crop was realized, lost several large limbs. This vast industry will sometime cut a great figure in the markets of the United States. The business interests of Yuma are in the.hands of energetic, euterprising men, who are adepts in their respec tive lines, and cater to the wants of their .patrons in. a way that retains them a satisfactory list of customers. The railroad hotel at Yuma, under the present management, is all that could be desired. The tables are sup plied with every conceivable good thing to be obtained in the markets, and it is cookpd in a manner, very tempting to the appetites of the most fastidious. The service is excellent, being composed of a corps? of profes sional hotel people who have made a studv of their business, and are ex perts. T. A. Jones, more familiarly known as "Tom." who was formerly proprietor of the International hotel at Nogales, has opened the hotel Jones, in Yuma, about a hundred yards east of the depot. The rooms are all clean, and newly and comfortably furnished. The establish mentis conduced on the European plan, and a first-class res taurant will soon be added. Prof. G. A. Gustin, well-known in Tucson as a former baud leader, is connected with this hotel. Two meat markets supply splendid meats to the public. Just as sweet, tender,., juicy steaks are served in Yuma as at any place in the Terri tory. Frank Redondo, an old timer in the Territory, conducts one and David Balsz the other. They are all popular citizens and business men, and add to the strength of Yuma's commercial standing. The principal saloons ef.the place are C. V. Meeden's Gem, and the re sorts of J. H. Shanssey, L. J. F. Iaeger, Gilroy & Moretti and Jack Dunne. Each of of these places has its peculiar attrac tions and all are conducted in a man ner wholly creditable to the proprie tors. Robert Tapia, an old resident of' Tucson, conducts a well appointed tonsorial establishment, and wins a satisfactory share of pa'ronage by at tention to the details of his business. Under the management of Hon. Mike Nugent, who is popularly known as a model superintendent, the Ter ritoaial prison is being conducted at least twenty-five per cent oheaper than under. the former administration. The convicts arc kept busy at present removing the hill just at the edge of town. There are 200 prisoners now in confinement; 80 are whites, 80 Mi x icans, and the remainder are divided between Negroes, Chinamen and In dians.
