Verdnsro returned this week from Los Angeles, where he had been under the care or eye specialists since the unforninHte accident he suffered recently which cost, him the sitrht of his right eye through a charge of bird shot striking him in the face. The eye was removed and a glass one put in its place. It was a skillful operation and the artificial eye is unnoticeabln. The vision of the other is wholly unim paired and. on the whole, Mr. Verdugo is to be congratulated that he bustained no greater injury. It is very gratify ing to his host of friends. A 300 horse power boiler, a' 400 horse power engine and a 750 kilowat dynamo compose the ship ment. A 60 kilowat dynamo has been on hand for some time and will be in stalled as soon as the other machinery arrives. Craw ' mer of Speed, Kansas, who has been husking corn for H. K. Weir, a promi nent farmer of this section, has all the other champion huskers outdistanced when it comes to fast, husking While employed by the above named farmer he has the distinction of having husked 128 bushels in nine hours in a field that was making an average of forty bushels per. acre. Hew Bridge Pier A big force of men have been at work on the new pier that is to be built in the middle of the Colorado river atTopock, , for the purpose of strengthening the . great .railroad bridge, and is being ajigpaented daily. Miss Virginia "Irwin as :Daiias' Wainr'lght'ts a very "pretty young woman and a capable actress, filling the role in a very ac ceptable manner. Edward Keene as Scott fiibbs, the young stock broker with a yellow .streak, was also good, while Moore as HorrigSn and Morris as,Pheli.in.were simply great, and local people who saw the original production say they were equally as strong in their parts as were the creators of the two roles. Harry English as Alvin Bennett, the incorruptible young Mayor,- pleased with his acting, as did every - member of the cast. Young People Wed Albert Gandolfo, sou of John Gan ' dolfo, the Yuma pioneer, and Miss Mary Windham, were married in Iin- .perial county Sunday, having gone there for that purpose. Outtrem was here from Caiexico this week to enlist the aid of local officers in an endeavor to recapture seven prisoners who es caped from the Caiexico city jail.
