Stating the theme of this is sue of the Digest is the follow ing paragraph in the Comment section: “A good portion of this issue is devoted to demonstrating that the Democrats have been right and the Republicans wrong about most of the major issues of re cent years, including our de fense program: This is done in no spirit of smug gloating that the Republicans are to blame for national misfortunes. It is done because the yardstick of the immediate past is the best way to measure a political par ty’s ability to deal with the pre sent and the future. In this is sue we measure the Republicans by such a yardstick. We believe the unbiased reader will agree with us that the Eisenhower Administration hasn’t measured up.” A new Digest feature, Keep ing Score on the GOP, reports that the Ford Motor Company “spent $250 million to launch the new Edsel; the Administra tion spent sllO million on Pro ject Vanguard, still not launch ed.” D*TPnMI7C OUR ADVERTIZED i n i ii v ii i l k W ~w Maiosti AtutMol CHRISTMAS DANCE 13 MASONIC HALL 4th at Jefferson Streets PROCEEDS—UNDER PRIVILEGED CHILDREN’S CHRISTMAS FUND MUSIC BY CHARLES LEWIS And His ORCHESTRA , DANCING 9-1 The Public Is Cordially Invited jtjgl DONATION SIOO PER PERSON This advertisement is neither an offer to sell nor a solicitation of offers to buy any of these securities. McGahee sen tenced Hoyt Dunn, father of nine children to work off his time in a public works camp. H$ will also be fined SI,OOO or re ceive an additional six month prison sentence. A jury deliberated more than two hours before finding Dunn, a garage operator in Means ville, guilty of the rape charge. The jury recommended misde meanor sentence despite pleas from State Sol. Gen. Andrew Whalen for a felony conviction. Dunn pleaded not guilty be fore a packed court room at the beginning of his trial Tuesday morning. It is forecast that by 1956, and perhaps sooner, there will be 81 million motor vehicles registered in this country, as against 66,- 275,000 now. This gives special relevance to a statement by Lewis H. Mumford, and author ity on city planning: “Americans who once sang: ‘We love our rocks and rills, we love our tem pled hills’ now could accurately sing, ‘We love our expressways and parking lots, big clover leaves and traffic knots’.” N PI7HM Jl OIIM SUBSCRIBE TO Cl II ILiU I! n VU II ■ 23.
