Otis E. ; Finley, Jr., National Urban League associate director ( for education and youth incentive, offered this suggestion in ad dressing more than 500 partici pants in a Regional Youth Lead ership Conference, July 31 - Aug. 2, sponsored by the Prince Hall Scottish Rite Masons, Southern Jurisdiction, in cooperation with the UL of Greater New Orleans and Dillard University. He noted thousands of new jobs 1 created by advances in techno logy are “color blind,” so far j as racial discrimination might be a limitation, but require far more skills and training than ever before. For the first time in history, Finley pointed out, many col leges with heavy Negro student enrollments are now visited by representatives of major indus trial corporations and govern ment agencies who are looking for trained young people. "The great tragedy,” Mr. Fin ley said, “is that far too many young people drop out of high school and thereby automatically erase themselves from oppor tunity for advancement. 19 AFRICANS TO VISIT U. S. HOMES NEW YORK, N.Y. - 19 African students were awarded four-year scholarships at United Negro College Fund member institu tions. They will arrive here on Aug. 13, according to James R. Smothers Jr., UNCF director of educational services. From seven countries these young peo ple are the second group to study at UNCF colleges under the Af rican Scholarship Program started last year. To acquaint them with daily living in the United States, each young African will be the house guest of a private family from !
