That Scholl tok n fine sun both Mon- ! day morning. That a certain yonng man in J uueaa : is very faithful in waiting for the end of the choir practice. That ice cream flowed freely in i Juneau last Sunday at the expense of , a Douglas City young man. That some people think they are playing it tine, when at the same time everybody has "caught on." Please Return! The Douglas Public Library has just: received two sacks of new books. The 1 books in the library are for tho free ? nse of all and everyone is at perfect |, liberty to take and read them. We < hope no one will abuse this privilege, j The librarian iuforms us that the ink pad for stamping books, and the hatchet used iu building fires, have been taken from the rooms. Will the borrower j please return them at once, and not do ft again. _ j Wholesalers. An acquaintance of the editor of the Jfews desires to establish a wholesale and retail liquor house in this city with ' a view of handling California wines, in the manufacture of which the members of the firm are engaged. The law fixes the wholesale license at $2000.00 and the retail at S1000.CX), making an expeuse , for licensee alone $250.00 per mouth. This prohibition license will no doubt keep wholesalers out of the district, for we doubt if wholesaling without a retail trade would be profitable. W. T.
