Councilman Joseph Trudgeon had a
narrow escape from drowning last Mon
day. While carrying milk from his
ranch to his launch, his dingy found
ered, and Joe was left to swim for it.
Last Saturday afternoon Mr. Brent
Gravrock fell from his wagon and
broke the femur bone of his left leg.
The horse became frightened and back
ed the wagon over an embankment
near the St. Ann Hospital, upsetting
it, and causing the accident to the
occupant.
Swedish Evangelical Lutheran Ser

Miss Mary Kennedy left on the Se
; attle Monday morning, enroute to her
' home at Toronto, Canada, after spend
1 iug the past five months at Treadwell.
Miss Carrie M. Risedorpb,of the Se
attle schools, has been elected by the
J board of directors to fill the vacancy
caused by the resignation of Miss Elva
j Galloway, who has so successfully
conducted the Treadwell school for the
i past year. Miss Risedorph has been
j very highly recommended for the posi
tion.

Mrs. T. A. Shorthill, of Skagway, left
for her home on the northbound City
j of Seattle,after several weeks visit with
the family of her son, Mr. VV. W. Short
hill.
The Leelanaw arrived Saturday night
with coal, and after partly unloading
at Douglas, will discharge the remain
j der of her cargo at the Treadwell
; bunkers.
The popular launch "Mabel" belong
i ing to the Treadwell Yacht Club came
out eighth iu the boat races Saturday
j evening.
Politics have been boiling a little in
j Treadwell of late. A number of our
j prominent citizens atttended the Re
i publican and Democratic conventions
in Juneau on Saturday and Monday.
The election of a delegate to congress
from the District of Alaska will beheld
on August. 14. D. J. Kinzie and H.
; Philpot have been appointed clerks of
the election at thi9 place and I. D. Car
penter, J. McCormick and Cha9. John
sou, judges.

have definitely decided to build the
stage at the east end of the Auditorium.

Died?At Treadwell, Alaska, Wedhes-j
day, July 11th, Milps Tepavcevich, a
native of Gacko, Hercegovina, Austria,!
aged 32 years. Funeral services were :
held at the Servian church in Douglas
on Thursday, July 12th at 2 o'clock, p.
m., Father E. P. Alexine officiating.
The interment was at the Douglas Ser
vian Cemetery.

The Congregational Sunday School
will hold their annual picnic atjCrystal
Falls Park on Friday, July 20, weather
permitting. The parents and friends
of the Sunday school children will
! please bring their baskets with them.
The public is invited to share with us
the pleasure of the occasion by bring
ing their baskets also. A variety of
novel and unlooked for games will be
in the program of the day. The
scholars will meet in the school room
of the church on Friday morning at 10
o'clock and march out to Crystal Falls
Park.
