'PHONE NO. 12. ?8.00 ? 1.50 - 75 10 Delegate Wicker sham addressed the people of this vicinity last Weduesday night at the Elks' hall*, Juneau. From reports of his talk printed in a Juneau paper we judge that the bottle of Mr. Wickersham's wrath is still uncorked. His election has not sweetened him ? he is still thirsting for the blood of his political enemies; Let him beware or he will become as unpopular as tho preacher who 9till insists ou preaching to unwilling listeners on the doctrine ; of the "damnation of infants." Hallowe'en is drawing near aud no doubt the smwll boy is beginning to ! plot mischief. Last year a number of them got iuto trouble by going too far. No oue objects to the boys having a little fun, 'but if they go too far the law will surely step iu. The government has bought the Simpson hospital at Juneau aud will i maiutain it iu connection with the edu cational department for the benefit of the natives of Southeastern Alaska. Last Friday night, at the conclusion of its labors as an equalization board, the common council visited St. Anu avenue, walkiug the full length of the street to the Treadwell line. They found '.hat it was, a3 it had been rep resented, dark ai:d dirty. The edict has uow gone forth that there shall be light. Peter Peterson, a boat builder who had a shop at the mouth of Law-on creek, was found dead yesterday after noon. The mast of a sloop he was re- j pairing came in contact with the main line wires of the Alaska Electric Light & Power company, and by rubbing' wore away the insulation. Peterson went out some time yesterday to take down the mast. When fouud yesterday he was grasping a stay- wire aud the electric current was still passing through his body. 113 was stoue dead. The body was taken to the hospital dead-house. Petersou was an old-timer in Alaska, coming here in 1881. For a number of years he was employed at Killisnoo. He was a member of the Association of Alaska '87 Pioueere. He was a native of Sweden aud most of his letters are written iu that lauguage. Rev. J. H. YVaimaneo, who was a friend of the deceased, has been appointed j administrator of the estate, which is ! said to amouul to several thousand dol- j lars. Coroner VViun, of Juneau, has decided that au inquest i& unnecessary. John Feusi Returns John Feusi, the Front Street hard ware man, returned Saturday ou the Humboldt from a visit to the States. For the first time since coming to Alas ka some thirteen years ago, John went back to his old "stamping ground" in California, visiting San Francisco and Sacramento. At the latter place he saw a sister for the first time since he came North. Miscellaneous Wednesday morning Mrs. Kilbuck gave au iuterestiug talk to the assem bly on the Eskimos' education at Wain wright, Alaska. The pupils found out that the Eskimos are just as anxious to learn as the civilized people. Miss Johnson received three new pupils iri the last week? Mary Liggat, who has come from Scotland; Margaret Willie, from Seattle, aud James Fitz Morris, from Idaho. Peggie Liggatt is a new pupil in Miss Grace Smith's room, and Amelia Rose in Miss Wer ner's room. The girls of the High school and the eighth grade have organized au athletic association with Miss Thora Smith as manager. Miss Gra36 Smith aud Miss Johnson are coaches for the teams. Enid Richards is captain for the High school team and Ruby Johuson for the eighth grade team. Mr. aud Mrs. Latimer from the Ju neau schools were welcome visitors at the Douglas school last Friday. The swings have been put up on the playgrounds aud are very popular. The rest of the equipment will be put up some time within the next month. Tents aud camp stoves at Jeusen's. DISSOLUTION OF PARTNERSHIP The firm heretofore existing under the name and style of Lundstrom & Williamson, Loggers, of Whitewater Bay, Alaska, is this i da> dissolved by mutual consent, Mr. August Williamson having purchased the entire in terest of Alfred Lundstrom in the concern and w ill collect all bills owing the firm and pay all accounts which are outstanding aguinst the firm.
