Of the fourteen incorporated towns in the territory In 1910, five in creased in population betweeu 1900 and 1910, five decreased, and four are towns which did not exist iu the former year. ! There are now fifteen incorporated towns iu the teiritory, oue of them j (Iditarod) having been added this year. ! The nine incorporated towns which j caused an assessment of property to be made and a tax to be levied this year j report a total assessed valuation of i $7,669,047. The tax rate of these towns ranges from one-half of one per ceut to ! two per cent, the average being 1.6 per cent. ? Goveruoi's report. Next to mining, the fishing industry is the most productive in the territory, ' says the Governor's report. For the past week the question of diseased reindeer meat loaded down with germs has been tbe subject of considerable discussion. The Nugget iu order to get at the bot tom of the whole matter has been iu vestigatiug the rumors for the past three days, and on Thursday last found that the Pacific Cold Storage Company had dressed a reindeer literally filled with tapeworms and eggs of the same germs. The meat tfas such that the Cold Storage company had the local doctors investigate the same. Doctor Neuman was called in and he took samples of the eggs and developed tapeworms from them. Horace J. Stevens, of Houghton, Michigan, editor and publisher of the Copper Haud Book, and a noted min ing engineer, in a speech delivered be fore the American Mining Congress, said, in commenting on the Bonanza copper mine, in the Copper river valley: "A 8 a matter of fact, theGuggemheim'a control a copper mine in the in terior of Alaska that is a wonder in its way, yet caunot be rated at more than a third-class property. The mine, the Bonanza, is a sort of copper- plated gold brick, in that an interior core of lime stone is surrounded by phenomenally high grade bornite and copper glace. No competent mining men who have visited this property have estimated the amount of ore in sight and safely to be inferred, as capable of producing more than 100,000,000 pounds of finished copper, h total production equivalent to only one year's maximum output by any one of the six leading copper mines of the world."
