Hubbard and son, Teddy, are coming home on the steamer City of Seattle, which sails from Seattle next Saturday. Mr. Colin M. Blain aud Deputy U. S. Tex continues- the manufacture of the famous Heury Clay. The Humboldt came in Monday evening with a heavy load of freight and passengers. On her next trip north she will be loaded with excur sionists. Miss Aunie Thurlow, of Portland, came north on the Humboldt to spend the summer in Alaska. Miss Thurlow was a resident of Juneau seven or eight years ago. Mrs. Anton Liljestrand left for Skagway on the Seattle last Saturday for a visit with her daughter, Mrs. Viotor Peterson. Miss Edna accom panied her. TREAD WELL TOPICS A. K. Smith, of the 240 mill, was a re turning passenger ou the Jeffersou, after a mouth's vacation to points on the Sound. Paul Westphial, who recent ly left for the States, is now located at Telluride, a mining district in Colorado. Mrs. David Leggatt,of the Pines, left on the Al Ki to joiu her husband, who is at prereut in Vaucouver, B. C. Alfred Dahl left for Fanshaw last week. Mike Caiiaghy has gone to work at the *240 mill. Mr. aud Mrs. Wm. Robinson were southbound passengers on the Al-Ki for a visit with relatives in Canada. Henry Vogt, of the carpenter force, is making a flying busiuess trip to the Sound via S. S. Seattle. Mrs. Thos. Judson and children left ou the Seattle Sunday, bound for Oak Harbor, Wash., where they will spend some time visiting at the home of Dave Judson and family, formerly Island people. Hugo Chillen is the latest victim of the measles among the little I read well j folk*. The Tread well school term ended last Friday, after a most successful school | year. Miss Werner, the teacher, will leave soou for a vaoatiou in the States, but will return in the fall, having been reappointed. Michael Mhzzco left on one of the ; westward boats, bound for Chitina. Mr. and Mrs. P. Petersou, of the Piues, left ou the Al-Ki for Ketchikau. Wm. Burke carried off tirst houors ; in the handball tournameut which took place at the Treadwell gym, end- 1 ing last week. Joseph Arnold, who left for White- j horse a few months ago, is agaiu a resi dent of Douglas Island. Andrew Thorkelsen has resigned his j position ou the carpenter force, and accompanied by his family will leave soou for au extended trip to his old home iu Norway. R. H. Virch was a Treadwell bound passenger ou the Humboldt and is em j ployed at the Mexican. Mrs. John D. Miller has been ou the j sick list for the past week, but is now ou the road to recovery. Alex Morgau was a home-bound pas - j senger ou the Jeffersou. Mr. Morgau j was south on a short vacation. The family of J. M. Gibeau were ar- j rivals ou the Jeffersou to make their home ou the Islaud. Mr. Gibeau has charge of the diauioud drill at the j Mexicau mine. R. E. Johns has resigned his position at the Mexican and has goue across the chauuel for employment. Ralph Beifetline is now working ou the carpeuter force for the Alaska Juneau Miuing Co., and has taken up j his residence in Juueau. . The Spokane, on her last trip before the opening of the excursion season, is due Friday. M. J. O'Connor, Mayor. Died Yesterday at noon, Aletba Evelyn, beloved daughter of Charles Fe lister, passed from this vale of tears, after an illness lasting many weeks. Ller age was eight years and one month. Funeral services will be held at Odd Fellows hall tomorrow (Thursday; afternoon at 2 o'clock, Rev. Umstead officiating. Many friends will mourn with the devoted father and the little brother, the untimely death of the sweet little girl, who won the hearts of all who knew her. Although the holding of public exer cises was rlenied to Douglas on Me tnorial Day, many people visited the cemetery, carrying armsful of flowers, aud there were very few graves that were not covered with tokens of re membrance. On the graves whe?e soldiers lay small flags were added to the decorations. The Ladies' League of the Congrega tional church will hold their uext meet ing at the home of Mrs. J. N.
