The Sn Fran cisco Call, in endeavoring to show that it is in good company in approving of the Presi de tit's course and the Philadelphia Conven- n. a-ks us what we think of Seward, of tteorge C Ashmun and others, including (Jentral Sherman and General Grant, who. it mv, justify the President and approve the Pbilnlelphia Convention. In regard to Seward, we s ty what some of his best per sonal friends in this vicinity say, that the mows or the intended assassin nnset his mental equilibrium, and that his days of servitor his country have passed. Of George C. A-hmun it niav be stated that sirce ItsfiO, when he presided over the Convention spo ken of. he has been rapidly approaching the status of McI)oiiga;l, politically and socially. Touching General Grant and General Sherman, sthen the Call asserts that thev are with the President and for the Philadelphia Convention, it speaks at ran dom and says what it cannot prove and what has not appeare.t. Reckless statements can avail the ("all but little, bu if ft sswxl i confess f'anklv that it sympathize, with Copper heads it will state the truth and what it, columns daily indicate. Sac. Union As Intekkstino Cask. The Sam Fran cisco Bulletin, alluding to the case of Din gle vs. the California Navigation company, says: Pingle was the engineer of the steamer Sophie McLane. which exploded at Suisnn in 184, on which he was seriouslv iniured. He now sties the Navigation Company for Jfjo.lssi or more damages, and alleges that the boiler, were in an unsafe condition and nnfit for use and that the Company had been repeatedly nut fied that such was the ease. He alo alleges that the iron of which the boilers was composed was of an inferior quality, and not such as is required by Art of Congress. There are many important points in the ease both of law and fact. The question of liability of the Company to the employe who knew of the condition of the machinery, and consequently might be said to have run the risk of accident, is inter esting as a legal proposition, while the fact, in regard to the manufacture nf boilers of inferior iron are matters nf more than pass ing moment with the public. The explosions on the Yi semite, Wash's, Sophie McLane and other steamer, in California have never as yet been satisfactorily accounted for, and if the present trial should throw any light oa the subject, repetitions of sack terrible dis asters may be avoided. Firs Esorstra. Tarn more steam fire engines have arrived by the Sacrament" from the Amoskeag Manu'aeturing Com pany. Thev will he called San Francisco Nn. 2 " and " Sah Francisco No. 3." We have now received three out nf the four steamers ordered for the Paid Fire Depart ment.
