Adopted by tlie ltemoerntie State Convention, at Virginia City, Angnvt 20th, 1S76. We, tho Delegates of the Democratic Party of the State of Nevada, in convention assem bled, do horoby declare— First-Our unfaltering and cordial adher ence to the declaration of principle contained in tho platform of the National Democratic Convention, which convened at St. Louis on the 27th day of Juno, 187tf. Second—We declare our adherence and our earnest and zoalous support to Samuel J. Til den and Thomas A. Hendricks, the nominees of the National Democracy lor tho offices of President and Vice President of tho United States, and that wo view with satisfaction the candidacy of these great representatives of reform, who, if elected, wi!l carry into effwet the pledges made in their letter* of accept ance and in the platform ef the National Democratic Convention. Third —We deelaro that we are in favor of maintains a free pHblie school system, and we are unalterably opposed to any division of tho funds thereof, or to any religions er sec tarian interference therewith. Fourth -That religious liberty and separa tion of Church from State are enrdinal doc trines of [ho Democratic party, and have ever been maintained by it. That wo are there fore unalterably opposed to political pro scription on account of religious faith and to aoy interference by any religious seet fir ereed ia the poFtieal f fairs ef the country. Fifth—-Wo demand of the Federal fluvern oient the lmraodiam modification ef the treaty with tho Umpire of < hina, known as the Bur lingame treaty, aad sueh legislation and treaty regulations at shall utterly abolish Chinese immigration to these shores, and we declare that we will support noenofer office who is not detei mined and active in opposi tion thereto. And we denounce the Republi • an parly as neing mo auuior oi rn« prtuii lyiUm of coolie importation and Mongolian immigration to our country, through its blun dering legis ation and administration: and we charge the Republican party with having promoted and fostered and ceunrenansod Chinese immigration by a gross perversion ef the meaning, intent and scope of tho clause of the Declaration of Independence which de clares that “all men are created equal," and we charge that the Republican party is in sinecro ia its declaration of opposition to Chinese immigration, as evidenced by the de claration of its acknowledged leaders in ils National Convention at Cincinnati, and as evidenced by th« fact that in a neighboring State tho lenders of the Republican party have a<8c«sed and accepted funds frem com panies engaged in the coolie trafic for the use and benefit of the Republican party ia the pending political campaign. Sixth -Tha» w© view with satisfaction and point with pride to the labors of the present Federal House of Ret rosentative in unearth* ing corruption and villainy in high places arid bay injr in a single year instituted economies whereby the expenses of tho Federal Gov ernment have been reduced more than $30, 000,000, notwithstanding the determined op position and hostility ot the loaders of the Republican party in Congress. Seventh—We favor an economical adminis tration of our State, county and municipal governments: that taxation be so regulated that no serplos revenue be ticcumu ated: that all property including tho not proceeds • »f mines shall bear its equal burden of taxa tion, end wcaro opposed to any legislation in n. y wise exempting such proceeds from taxa tion. Fighth That tho Democratic partv of this State utterly repudiates the assertion of its f ivoring the payment of any claims tor slaves liberated, or any portion of the Confederate wir claims or debt. We recognize the full and final settlement of those questions by the I ifte. nth Amendment to tin* Constitution of the United Mates, which provides: “The validity of ths public debt ot tho United Siatos. autli ri/ea by law, including debts tor i aymentof pensions and bounties for cervices in suppressing insurrection 01 rebellion, shall net b© questioned, but neither the Inited States nor any Slate shall assume or pay any debt or obligation incurred in aid of insur rection or rebellion against the United States, or any maim for the loss or emancipation of Hnv * ave: but all such debts, obligations and claims shall be held illegal and void.** Ninth 1 hat wo charge upon the Republi can Congress tho clandestine, surreptitious and fraudulent pas'ing of tho act of March, 1*71, demonetizing silver That we denounce that act as an infamous outrage on the debtor class ot the l uited states, resulting as it ha« in incieasing their burdens to the startling amount of over SdUO,UX),OUO. That we dv nounce that act as in an extreme decree in imical and disastrous to the people of Nevada by mainly causing tl.o immense depreciation of tho value of silver and thereby prostrating and paralyzing th" gr-ut loading industry of silvr mining in this State. That wo demand the restoration of tho doub o standard of gold nnd silver, and wo call up n ill the peo ple in this State, disregarding minor issues, to solidly support tbut party w hich bus evidenc ed by its vote ia the presentl engross its deter mination to do us ample justice in this vital question. it'iiui iii»’ rum ui inn ivt'|iiii.iiiriin jinny during the eleven years pa«t has been charac terised by corruption and oppression, of which modern despotism furnishes no paral lel. Rj-ofessing to b > the party of liberty and progress, it lias with armed mem invaded legislative bodies of sovereign States of the Union irt violation of the fundamental law, thereby imperiling the existence of free gov ernment. While advocating tho restoration of fraternal relations with the people of tho States of the South, it nas misgoverned that unhappy suction by means disgraceful to a civili/.ed and Christian age. by the incite ment of riot and insurrection it has main tained its supremacy in the South- a suprem acy which has entailed prostrate industries, uncultivated fields and general bankruptcy upon a once prosperous people. With loud promises to tho country of reform in tho civil service, of tho reduction of expenditures in tho departments of the Government, it has presented to tho country and tho world the numilitating spectacle of the acquittal of a high officer of the Government successfully impeached for high crimes; of the enforced resignation of cabinet officials, because their purity of chuructor and fearless prosecution of thieves ronderod such officials no longer useful to the party managers; of frauds in tho Revenue Department perpetrated by their officials, who, instead of punishment for their crimes, aro protected by the Chief Mag istrate of the nation; of fraud in the Interior Department whereby tho “Indian King” has purloined the appropriations made by Con gress to the Indian trib”?, thereby instigat ing said tribes to war, with its attendant hor rors, upon a defenseless frontier- of corrup tion in tho Land Office of the Government whereby decisions disposing of tho Home stead, Pre-emption and Mining rights of tho citi/.em have bean bought ana sold; of fraud in the Ntivy Department wherein many mil linns have been expended ostensibly tor the maintenance of rotten ships and their arma ments, but in reality for tho enrichment of its high official*and the campaign purposes of the party. Of fraud in tho advancement by tho Government of millions of the public moneys to privuto banking institutions known to boon tho verge of bankruptcy. Of corrup tion in the Executive Department in the ap pointment of dishonest individuals ns United States Judges, Marshals and Revenue officers, by whom the administration of justice has been brought into contempt and the revenue of tho people stolen, by the perpetration of the^e high crimes and misdemeanors by the leaders of the party in power, wo claim that it is no longer untitled to the contidonce of the American people, li e therefore earn estly and cordially invito all men of whatso ever past affiliations, who love their country bettor thun a party name, to unite with us in an effort to restoro in tho Government of our country those habits of simplicity and purity which characterized the earlior and better days of the Republic.
