A SO ItKClItEltl.Y THE CHEAPEST HOCK KEOI'CER IS THE WOKLD. The operation of the Machine will be un derstood by referring to the following : When hard rock is crushed, it is broken to the required size (as in the case of other Rock breakers or Reducers), and fed in between the jaws, and thelower part of the jaw is adjusted by means of four set screws, to close the open ing between the jaws to the size to which the rock i8 to be pulverized, the top of the jaw be ing left to incline back, or it may be necessary to incline the same forward to prevent the quartz from glancing or slidiug on the shoe. The lever-jaw’ is being rapidly vibraled by the crank-shaft w’hich operates the friction roll. It will be seen that the lower part of the face of the shoe moves concentrically with the main shaft and pivot, but the degree of im pingement to which the quartz is subjected, is regulated by adjusting tlie back jaw by means of the set screws, forward or back, there by regulating the angle of contact with the quartz to a glancing or angular force, instead of direct perpendicular force—which is seldom sufficient to produce any euttingor perceptible wear or disintegration of the iron of which the shoo is composed. The wear of the shoe is of a slow, scouring nature, and the shoe will last to crush ten times as much hard quartz as can be crushed by the shoe of any other Crusher. When decomposed or soft quartz, or other soft vein-matter, is crushed, the upper portion of the jaw is set forward, so as to allow a more direct pressure and crushing force to be brought to bear upon the larger lumps of soft material, thereby gripping the same; but as it is crumbled and reduced the small hard lumps that are found in nearly all decomposed quartz and vein matter, are subjected to the glancing forco of the lower part of the shoe, which moves concentrically with the axis, thereby sculling or cleaving, instead of crushing by a direct or perpendicular pressure. As the whole machine can, without diffi culty, be taken apart in eight different pieces, it can with the greatest facility be trans ported to any mining district, and, by its de cided advantage over all similar machines, and its unsurpassed cheapness, it will supply a want long felt among Mine and Mill Owners in all parts of the country.
