THE EVENING NEWS. Recorder's Coirt, Virginia. ? The following business was this morning trans acted before Judge Davenport : Pat. Mc 'iee, arrested by officer Lawton, for fight ing, ?a< upon trial discharged. T. C. Moore, arrested by the same officer on a similar charge, pleaded guilty and was lined and paid $20. E. Burton, arrested hv officcr Hanks on a d. d. clfcrge, was, upon a hearing, discharged. John and William Alley, arrested by officer Dow ney, charged with disturbing the peace, were upon trial each fined ten dollars j which they paid. Molly Tuers and Wm. ">:ouecipher were arrested by officer Ballou j i>n a warrant, charged with having com- | mitted an assault on Johnny Tuers. The | prosecuting witness appearing and ac- | ^nowlcdging satisfaction, the complaint was withdrawn at the cost of the proseeu- I ting witness, and the respondents dis- | charged. John Doe. arrested by officer j llemmeron, charged with bring drunk and disorderly. was, upon a hearing dis- j rharged. John Kelley, arrested on a war- I rant by Marshal Cooke, upon complaint of Edmund Welch that he was fearful for his personal safety, the said Kelly having Made threats against his life, will be tried this afternoon. Amanda Paine, a colored American, arrested for disturbing the peace and cheering for Jeff. Davis, in com pany with other prostitutes, was fined and paid $20. Civil Docket . ? In the matter of Clark vs. Quigley, an execution has to day been issued. I'nion Meeting. ? The I'nion men of Ward One. met last evening on C street, iu front of the I'niou flub Rooms, and building a huge boanre, were addressed hv Col. Charles A. Sumner and other gentlemen. .V stand was erected, on one side of which hung in triple folds the stars and Stripe*, while on the other wound the colors of independent Mexico. A huge crowd assembled, and as Colonel Sumner crushed the copperhead with the scathing truths of true I'nion doctrine, a few stragglers sneaked out of the crowd and sought some congenial rum mill, while cheer after cheer rent the air, as the Ixsh of words descended on the smarting Sacks of copperheads. Col. Sumner made a fine etfort and was warmly appreciated, and is daily doing good service to the cause. The Mexicans inspired by the news from the loyal Cortinas, joined in ihrongs the swelling crowd with a ?? Viva ta Amerique," that came from their hearts. The meeting was kept up until a late hour, notwithstanding the bitter cold, and other speakers addressed the willing assembly. 1'he Lavgh Tvrxkd. ? When the News reached Virginia last evening, the Cop perheads after reading the dispatch pur porting to have been received by Weller, were jubilant, and the News instead of being an ?? Abolition Organ." was a little the most reliable sheet issued. On the strength of the dispatch some extrava gant cuss, who had beat Faro, purchased a pound and a hall of gunpowder, some old anvils, and a bottle of strychnine whiskey, and prepared to have a grand hiss at their den on li street. While some of the chiefs were spouting treason, ?ind the powder being burned iu weak discharges, the true dispatch came, an nouncing Pennsylvania had gone Union ? ?? Oh what a change was there, my coun trymen." The anvils were thrown aside, ! the windy oration hushed, and like drops ! of water of a burning proxy, a few dis- j cordant hisses, a splutter and the snaix j retired to their dens to cur*e?he ?? Lincoln hirelings." i.o\\i. Irishmen. ? The ioyal Hiberni ans will assemble this evening at their ; Olub rooms on (? street, under Burnham Hall's carpet store. The meeting will i come to order at 7 o'clock, and it is to be ! hoped that every Irishman in the county | who remembers the greatness of the im- . mortal Eramett, will recollect his love of ' free people and free institutions, Rally, j hoys, rally, for if there ever was a time in 1 the world when loyal men should come to | the rescue of republican institutions it is now, and we hope the loyal Irish of Vir- [ ginia, emulating the example of their San j Francisco brethren, will swell the list of ! the Hibernian club of this city to one of ! \ast proportions. The Straxger \ esterday afternoon .1 lady, of Hibernian extraction, was con veyed to the Hospital, evidently exceed- ! snglv ill, and claiming not to know the j i-ause of her illness ; time, however, which | developed all things, assisted in the en- j trance of a "little stranger" as an addi- t tion to our population, who is totally un- ' provided with "store clothes." Dr. j Tucker will receive any donations of j '? baby fixins " for the little fellow, and j such will be most acceptable, for we can { hardly believe that our benevolent ladies ! will suffer unknown merit to go naked. We are more charitable than the poet : " Oh. it was pitiful ! Near a whole city tfulL" Property Holders. ? AUpersonsown- i ing or having property under their con trol in Storey county, and who have not been assessed, will avoid trouble by call ing at the Assessor's office in the Court house, X?. 14, north B street, and giving to the Assessor a list of property with [ full description, etc. By failing to do so j such persons may, according to law, be | assessed at any rate the Assessor may ! deem expedient, or the property may and certainly will be assessed to unknown owners (real estate) ; this causes trouble and expense both to owners and officials. Sic TRANSIT GLORIA ? SAGEBRUSH. ? The j only prominent vegetable production of i Washoe is about to be exterminated. The ? hills and mountains around Virginia, are ; covered with men, aye, and women too, i gathering sagebrush for copperhead > brooms. We witnessed this morning a i gentleman ordering away one of the j Hangers, remarking that out of sagebrush I grown upon his ground, no copperhead- ! brooms should be made. j Justice's Cocrt, Viloixia. ? The fol- I lowing business was transacted this mom- i ing before Justice Sawyer: French vs. Krinke et al., ? Case on trial. Davis vs. Gill is ? Action to be tried this afternoon. Tortell et al. vs. Hastings ? Judgment for plaintiff. McCluskey vs. Mallon ? Action continued until to-morrow. People vs. Bateman ? Action under statute for as sault and battery ; case dismissed. Board of Fire Delegates. ? The Vir ginia Board of Delegates will meet to morrow evening at 7 o'clock precisely, and as business of importance is to come J up for disposal, it is sincerely to be hoped that about ten members most culpably negligent and lazy heretofore, will for just once try and attend to their business, and do their duty to the companies they pro fess to represent. Bvixiox Lost A bar of bullion was recently lost from the Pioneer Stage, be tween Carson City and Strawberry Val ley. The Company offer a reward of $500 in gold coin for its recovery, which will prove a very good speculation for the tinder thereof, as it would be a hard mat ter to dispose of a bar of bullion without being detected. Eukkka Society. ? By an advertise ment in another column it will be seen that the Eureka Benevolent Society will give their Anniversary Ball, at Sutliff**, next Thursday. From the well known manner in which this Society always get up a good time, one of the gayest of the year may be expected. The Trrasaanblr Conspiracy *f thr Capperbead.-Jlepari af ifce Judge IdiMalr ?eacral. ! Oar yesterday's telegram contained a brief allusion to the report of Judge Advocate I General Holt npon the treasonable conspi racy among the Copperheads: The Sacra mento I'moh of yesterday contains the fol lowing very full synopsis of that startling report. Very apathetic Union men who j have been inclined to 14 pooh? pooh" the j rumors of such a conspiracy, had better read j the following ? and Copperheads who have ! persistently declared that that party was for the Union had better hunt their holes. Kead : judge Advocate General Holt s report up on the testimony gathered by him concern - inn treasonable societies formed in lojaJ States as adjuncts of rebclliou, is published in the Evening Post of to-day. According to the report, this treasonable Order embrac ed societies bearing various titles, such as ?' Mutual Protection Society, " Circle of Ito nor." Circlc of Knights of the^ Golden Cir cle," "Corps de Belgique. Southern League," " Order of American Knights ?? Order of Sous of Liberty." " Knights of the Order of Sons of Liberty," " Peace Organiza rion," " Star Organization,'' " American ur banization." " Democratic Invincible Club, " Democratic Reading Room and Mc Clcllan Minute Men." The latter title is the one borne by the secret political association ! in New York and other parts of the Northern States. Judge Holt sav it would seem to be a branch of the ?' 0. A. iL." having substanuallj 1 the same object, to be accomplished, how ! ever, bv means expressly suited to tHelocah I ties in which it is established. 1 he chief I Secretary of this Association, Dr. K. t . atevens," stated in June last to the reliable witness whose testimony has i been furnished, i that those who represent McClcllan s interest 1 are compelled to preach a vigorous Pros?j"' ; lion of the war in order to secure ! sentiment and allure voters. The McCleltau Minute Men, as appears from a circular issued by the chief Secretary, at New \ ork, 1 is organized upon a military basis similar o 1 ihat of the order proper. It is c"mP,^fi of 1 companies? one for each election district, ten I I,f which constitute a brigade, with a BrlSa | dier General at its head. The whole ? I under a Commander-m-chief. Jbc hrst .u preme commander ol the .h" i Wright, editor of the New \ork .N not, who i was last May sent to Fort U?y?te. \al landigham was his successor; Robert Hollo wav.of Illinois, was Lieutenant-General and acted in Vallandigham's stead during his 'absence. Col. J. B. Sanderson, in his report on the progress of the Order, expresses his opinion that the Order was founded by W landigham during his banishment, upon con sultation with Jeff. Davis and othe^rom.^ nent traitors at Richmond, rhe Order rn Indiana boasts that the ritual came direct from Davis, and one of the witnesses posi tivcly states that Davis is a member. The number belonging to the Order has be^van ouslv estimated at from ,!00,000 to 1,U00,0UU. Vall'andigham, in his Dayton (Ohio) speech, put it at i'lOO.OOO, which is probably nearest the truth. They are connected through Ind^ ana. Illinois, Ohio. Missouri and New York. In March last the entire armed force of the Order capable o? boiuz notihed for effective service, was represented at .>40 000 men The testimony shows that arms have been fur nished the members. In D.^ooto ortice were found letters to ex-^enator Wall, of New Jersey, in regard to the P"rc,h?'e,^ ? >0,0(10 Garibaldi rifles, to be forwarded to the men. Arms were to be forwarded by waw>f Canada and paid for by assessment upon tin different Lodges. Much testimony was taken upon this point, and the report is full of cvi denc- of extensive operations in this partic ular. The ritual contains a broad declaration 1 Of State rights, and against the authority of I the Federal Government to coerce b\ arms a I sovereign State, and avers that the executive 1 otficcrs of the Government may be expelled bv force of arms when they refuse to adnnn. ister the Government in accordance ?nbthc letter of the accepted Constitution. The oaths dcclare that the members will defend vith arms the principles of the Order when ever directed bv competent authority of the Ordc-. It Was admitted by one of the Order in Missouri that on joining he unJer5'??l1 that the object was to furnish aid to theCon federate Government. He adds 'bat the Order is hostile in every respect to the Gen eral Government aud friendly te the so-called | Confederate Government. It was exclusi e , made up of disloya! pcrsons desirous of prc-^ serving the independence of the Confederates whh a view to restoring the ? Ln.on as it was " The purposes of the Order are shown to be aiding soldiers to desert, the destruction of Government property, the destruction of private property and the persecution of Union men, assassination, and finally, the establish ment of a Northern Confederacy. VcctDEST.? Yesterday two men named Slocum and Meyers, were thrown from a Wa?on in Six-mile Canon, the wheels of the wagon passing over both, inflicting a probably fatal injury on Slocum, who vvas conveyed to Le Chante Hospital.
