In December, 1880, tbe drain boxea of
the Satro tnnnel north lateral drift were

oar joint Mexican eaat croeacut on tbia

Aa tut croiacat on ear eoutuern uae

forming a valuable air-way between

and waa run to a point 447 feet from tbe
main norih lateral drilt. From tbe and

The Joint Uexioen east winxe rescbed

oca MAIN INCLIM*
Still remains st a drptb of 67 feet on the
elope below the 2500 level, not having
been eunk eny daring the pest yssr, it
being found tbst ths work of developing
snd prospecting our mine esn be done to
better advantage below the 2500 level
through our joint Mexican and Cali
fornia east winxes, wbioh are now being
sunk from that iavsl. 8atlsfsotory ar
rangements were msds in December,
1880, with ths Sierra Nevsda-Msxican
Unioa and ths C. k C. sbsfta to do
our hoisting, since which time this
work has been done through those shsfls,
thereby making a large eaving in our
eurfsce expenets. Ia September Isst we
erected, jointly with the llexioan, Cali
fornia and Conaolidated Virginia, a Urge
suction fsn ovsr tbs Consolidsted Vir
ginia sbsft, for tbs purpose of improving
the ventilstion in our lower levele by in
creasing ths apesst capacity of thst sbsft,
our own sbsft remaining a strong down
esst. This fan has been in suoosasful
operation einoe that time, inereaeing the
volume of air paasing through our lower
levels at Isast fifty per oent.
In conclusion, I will stats that aa our
work during the pest year baa been al
most exclueivtly devoted to reaching
our 2700 and 2900 levele, the work of
tbo coming year will be applied to open
ing np and exploring tboee levels. The
character and extent of the vein matter
already passed through in our drifts and
drillhole* on these levels show marksd
Improvsment over the levels abovs, and
give great oncoursgement that some
thing of value will be found during the
ooming year. Our act expenditures dar
ing ths put yesr, as you will see by re
ferring to my financial atateneent accom
panying this report, bavs been bat 1262,
024 69, as against $599,318 89 for ths
prsvioas yssr, showing a marksd reduc
tion ia the yearly expeneea. This re
duotloa la eaused ia a great measure by
the obange made at the oommenoement
of the year la hoisting our tutorial aad
sssn through the Sierra Nevada-Msxi
can-Union and 0. & 0. abaft*, aa re
ferred to a bar*. Yaara, reipectfully,
